Remove Starter

Anyone know how to remove the starter motor from the top crank case? I removed two screws that hold the motor onto the case, but it wont come out? Its a 95 sj, with a 61x case! Thanks!

The front of the starter is inserted into the case and sealed with an o-ring. Sometimes the o-ring will get very very stuck. You should be able to pry between the front of the starter and the case to slide it out.

hmm... well i just broke a flat head... The motor seems to be really stuck, or im not doing something right...

So, right now you have your case pulled apart and the starters on the top half of the case? Is that right?

Otherwise my guess is that you still have a bolt in somewhere.

Correct

I am supposed to be prying in between the front of the starter, and the outside of the case? not inside the flywheel compartment?
