Replacement wear ring - SuperJet

Pretty sure I need to replace my wear ring. My clearance is .009" around most of the ring. Couldnt get that to fit in the top. There appears to be very little, if any, gap at the top. What are my options for a replacement? Do the plastic liner type work or junk? I'm replacing the impeller as well. It's a 99 RN Sj. 20190605_182553.jpg20190605_182552.jpg

You still have the Oem aluminum prop and you can see visible wear at the edges. It's a stainless ring and an aluminum prop, so it's quite possible a new prop will fix your clearance issue.
Did you decide on a prop yet?

You really think it's the impeller? The little bit of information I found reading around, suggest a swollen wear ring. Aren't these known for that after 10 years? Going to replace with a hooker 9/15.

A swollen wear ring would suggest it is bulged in one spot. Do you ride saltwater? Very rare in a freshwater ski. You have 3ither a swollen wear ring or the aluminum prop is your clearance issue. Judging by the way the OD of the prop looks im guessing its the prop. You need a prop anyways, might as well test fit it with a known good prop first since you're already going to have it apart.
What mods do you have done to your motor? Hooker is a good prop. @JetManiac will have whatever you need if you choose to go that route, including wear rings if so.

If you find you do need a wear ring? Save yourself the headaches down the road and stay away from the plastic ones! A good used OEM, or new oem
I have a brand new oem at a discounted price if you find you are going that way

In my experience, your wear ring will be fine, its just your alum prop that has taken all the wear.
Install a Hooker, or Skat prop with pitch dependent on your motor mods, and dont look back!
If your ski has a lot of salt water use? Your current wear ring might be done? You never know until you take them apart? Feel free to contact me directly if you need more help

Ski ya, Paul

I will order a new prop. You're right, I need it anyway @Roseand. I will test fit and go from there.

I don't ride it in salt water.

When I get the the wear ring off for further inspection, what am I looking for in addition to what I can already see? Are the grooved lines, from I am guessing the debris and the prop rubbing, an issue?

I put the new prop on today. My clearance is .009 in the tightest spot (on top side of the ring) and .013 elsewhere. Is that within spec? Anyone know the recommended clearance?

I thought stainless wear rings were not popular in surf riding circles? I have had 1 ski with a stainless ring, it had issues with the alloy housing and corrosion made it ' bubble's in spots, then it cracked the whole housing in half

That's the max clearence allowed. If it's too tight and the prop drags the wear ring then yes it's a problem. I have seen that. I always spin the mid coupler before setting engine in to check for drag. Running a/m mag pump

No drag and at 9 thou is good

Be advised: limit posted in that chart means clearance should not exceed 0.024"! In fluid dynamics, zero clearance would be ideal. However, out of roundness of impeller housing, imp. possibly being a few thousands oor , vibration of vanes whipping around, will certainly dictate about 0.010" clearance.-There would be a bit of slippage at 0.024".
When I get impellers rewelded, I always have to specify I prefer to have them finished to exactly 144mm- most companies grind them 0.005" under size- possibly to forestall
complaining from customers if imp should rub because of inaccuracies.
