Remember that you transfer the stuff everywhere on your clothing and shoes. In a perfect world such things would include disposable coveralls. I brush myself off and then pre-wash my clothes outside before putting them in the washer on the big jobs. Try not to go in and out of the house and don't track it in on your shoes days later. Wear a mask when sweeping the floor.
I use a respirator like the ones above anytime I'm using power tools and anytime I handle poly resin. I make sure the family is not home anytime I work with poly because you can smell the poly in the house even though I'm working on an open air carport. I will use drywall masks for very light sanding, like prepping to close up a bilge outlet or something.
If you want to know more about the respiratory hazards, look up silicosis.
Also remember there are other hazards, such as corneal abrasions and etc. Resin in the eye can cause blindness.
