Freestyle Rickter FR2 with SJ 701 for a beginner?

I've ridden a stock SXR quite a bit and I'm ready to buy my own sky now. I really want to get into freestyle (mostly flat water, boat wakes) would it be better for me to get a stock/ lightly modified SJ and then upgrade myself, or a freestyle built Rickter FR2? Are they difficult to learn on coming off of a stop SXR? Any help/advice is appreciated!

That fr2 is local to me. That's a surf ski. They rip on flat water but you won't be doing any flat water flips. That rickter is night and day better than the superjet though in my opinion. Lighter, more flick able. More fun. Everything is gonna be more fun than the tank sxr unless your carving bouys

OK, I'm realizing an FR2 is not what I want for flat water. I need recommendations. I want to be able to cruise somewhat comfortably too. Our lake has a 50 mile canyon to the dam. I wouldn't be going the whole way but 15-20 miles, sure.

I just picked up a 2011 fr2 this spring and love it. It has a 701 too. It was my first ski ever and I am so glad I went with it. It rides great. It is awesome to take it out for a cruise and jump boat wakes.

just buy a brand new superjet and build it to suite. it will do everything your asking it to. The fr2 has a rockered nose and the splash back makes for an uncomfortable ride. If it were between the superjet and the fr2 get a superjet. Unless your going to be riding surf at least 50% of the time. Get a superjet, save your money and do steering, intake grate, tubbies and pipe and youll have a blast.

I'm in Wyoming so riding surf 1% of the time is out of the question. I honestly have no idea what stuff costs for these skis. I'm hoping to spend $8-$9k. whats the best I can get for the money. Doesn't have to be brand new.

Well the nice thing about new is you know no one has f d it up lol my wife works at a dealership here in Seattle and I wanna say they go for around 7500 out the door don't quote me and I'll ask her.

Learn your riding style and mod the ski up then when your ready invest in an aftermarket hull. A Rickter edge or a tigercraft Aquabot seem to be good do all hulls. Heard killer things about the phantom too. But your initial purchase is gonna be more. If your looking to do long distance trips aftermarket might not be a good option. My predator is a surf hull and rides the lake amazing but you couldn't pay me to ride a full tank in a straight line to somewhere. Killer on the back and your face will get extra douched with water

If you're interested in the Phantom I can build you one rtr for 11k new hull with used components 701 b pipe Solas mag pump carbon pole ect ect I just enjoy building skis and helping out fellow riders wait time around 2-3 months Josh is currently very busy

So if I wasn't planning on long wish trips on the ski, would a free ride hull be good on the lake? I would take it that far maybe once a summer. the furthest i would normally go would be maybe 1/2 mile - 1 mile

How much to build a ski with a new Rickter XFS Starker kit and your used 701 engine and drive train? I'm not super serious or ready to start right away, Still have to convince my wife to let it happen. But hopefully by march or April I will be.
