Custom/Hybrid Rickter vs superfreak..

Looking at different options for a/m skis to replace my round nose. These are the only 2 makers I'm interested in, rickter and super freak. Questions I have:
I'm 6'1 and will be riding surf. I don't want a ski that rides nose high. I was trying to get some information on what Rickter model would be best for me. I've ridden an fs2 but tray is way to narrow, like a sj! I'm looking at the XFR and the superfreak Titan. I've rode a titan and it was a -9. Does not ride nose high very much at all tho, but haven't tried it in choppy florida surf. I don't have a chance to ride an xfr so was hoping to hear from some of you. What I really like about the Rickters is that they have the whole quality control going for them and the skis come predrilled and easy to assemble. My friend is having his Titan -4 nearly done so I will also see how it rides as well

I don't have either ski, but have owned a freak and would say its the one ski that does it all. I can't deny rikters aren't a good ride either, but if i could only have one ski that can do it all (well) then it's a Freak. Now, it's no surprise that quality control on Freaks are not on par with a Rikter and if it's ease of assembly and beautiful gel coat work that you desire then go with a Rikter. Neither will ride nose high...unless ur going 3 mph. Have you ever heard a Freak owner complain once it's all dialed in? Getting it there will make u cuss but it's worth the effort. I think that the Titan's are taking alot of the Freak's issues out of the equation. I hear that they are a cut above in terms of fit and finish (but that's second hand info.).

No discounting either, trust me there, i have ridden both and really like both. The FS-2 Evo 1 is wider so that may need to be on your list as well. If your like most riders in surf go for Titan or FS-2 EVO 1, or FR2 EVO 1, surf reinforced. See my build thread for more details. If you are doing BF and confident in the surf and think a SJ feels like a tank then get a Circus or XFS.I have ridden friends XFRs, XFS they are more nimble but its all about you. Only you know the type of rider you are. You have to break it down adn figure out exactly what you are looking for in a hull. Im not the same rider i was last year after riding a KDX all summer, a SJ now feels like its 10' long, even wiwth a big motor. Last year i rode the same KDX for 15 mins in 2-3s and said I dont know how people ride those things, now it feels long to me. LOL Have fun, buy something and remember it will be the wrong hull choice after you grow as a rider. The fun part is the growing, not the hull selection. These new hulls make you a better rider if you ride them a bunch

They are definitely nice skis (freak). They take days to put together though and don't come turfed (which is around a $1300 job ) I don't have to worry about dialing it in as I'm only swapping in my 701. I guess you can say im a little OCD when I want every bolt and clamp to line up correctly and have no issue going in; this is why I'm leaning towards a rickter. Just need to know which one !

U won't be upset with a Rikter if that's the way u go. They're def in a class of their own in terms of a finished product.

I recently rode a EVO in small surf and loved it. Tray felt nice and wide like my Chan or a freak.

I like the comment about fit and finish and pretty being +1 for the Rickter. If you're OCD, it sounds like buying a finished hull is really the only option. Otherwise you'll spend an entire season putting it together and making it perfect.

Cant Speak on a freak but I can on a XFR ,FR2 and EVO. I currently own XFRs and Love them. In chopped up Texas surf they work really well with a med plate. At the lake with a short plate for some flat water fun or chasing cruisers. Easy ski to build Fit and finish great Hood design cant be beat. The bad is its no light weight . I hated the stock foot wells but love the ninja wells Turf still sucks but better than the older ones. Truth be told between these two hull how could you go wrong. Either one of these hulls will advance you game way faster than a rn .

Its been mentioned that a Titan has a great fit/finish... your friend has a Titan right? How well did his go together and how is the finish? If it was great then don't purchase a Rickter on that basis. I own a Freak and love it but its a longer one and I haven't ridden the real short ones. If you say the -9" Titan doesn't ride nose high at all then that's really impressive and leaves the maneuverability of a short hull. Judging by your description it sounds like the -9" Titan is very impressive but it only matters what you think. Maybe you should try a couple different Rickters just to be sure about your decision

The XFS/XFR has to be dialled in to the specific rider.. you might jump on one xfs and it'll be a nose high pig because that's the way it was set up..
I turned my flatwater xfs into a surf hull by adjusting all the necessary modifactions to suit my height 6foot and weight, 80kg.

Shorten the pole, slap on riser bars, longer ride plate, (even shim your ride plate on a negative angle) adjust thrust trim on a neg trim also, move engine forward 50mm with cold fusion extended couplers, place your battery in a further-forward position, adjust footwells further forward..
theres heeps you can do.. doing this will turn it into a completely different ski, each modification changing the characteristics completely.

Whenever someone taller or heavier than me jumps on a xfs that isn't set up for them, and complains it rides nose high.. I just laugh.

With all that being said, if u want a performing surf ski, check out the new Krash Predator, first one in Aus landed last week. Its an animal!

I went from a Sj to a rickter fs2 and totally love the thing. It can be road all day long comfy. Choppy out and still run down yatchs, turns great, slide great, rolls great you name it. The quality is amazing and that's what I want in a ski. Adjustable everything is a major plus too, comes with pole bracket an ready to drop your 701 in like I did. I'm 6'2 an don't feel the tray is small though. But i surly wanna pick up a Evo1 to drop my 2013 guts into one day. I think the evo is what your looking for.

Sf is a nice riding ski too, both top notch but the look/feel/finish on the Rickters catches me.

I have both an fr2 and a freak badass -8.5, They are both great and different. In big surf I absolutely love the Rickter and I'm not sure what you mean by the tray being to narrow unless you are referring to just the front portion. I think a lot of what you want can be obtained by setup. Example my Rickter has an 850 and setup to pull very smoothly, no bottom end super hit, more of a mid range hit. It is great in surf and tons of fun for chasing boats etc. The down side is it is heavy. The freak I have has an 1100 and the throttle is a light switch, makes it fun on the lake chasing boats and flat water is awesome, does not ride nose high at all. Not a great surf boat for me because of the setup, BUT, if I were to swap motors, carbs, pipe, etc it would be awesome in the surf and it is Very light! You cannot go wrong with either it just comes down to what you really want to do and $. Hope this helps.

My friends Titan does have a nice finish to it, it just takes a lot more work assembling it. Rickters come pre drilled for pole bracket and tubes etc, freaks don't. Where can I read about the different rickters ? Rickters site is super slow and doesn't have all the models. Is the evo the same base price at 6600?
