Rickter XFS Build Advice

Location

I have just bought a 2012 XFS glass hull and want to swap over from my 03 SJ.

Other than the driveshaft and handle pole will everything else drop straight in?

Is there anything else I need to consider? Thanks

Thanks, I was just on the phone to a mechanic and he told me the the driveshafts are different lengths and he would need to make a modification? Did you convert from a Stock SJ?

I did on my 14 Xfs and everything dropped straight in. No spacer. Except you will need to lengthen the long exhaust hose from your water box to hull. The Rrp pole tubes work great for this, just save the length that you cut off and use it as a coupler

How long have you been running this build?

I ran it for a almost a year before I sold it

As I understand it the mid shaft spaces is a preventative to allow the shaft to flex and not strip the splines. Would you or anyonen else say I need to put one in?

We built 3 of them and never had an issue. Check your engagement but you should be fine

Get a different mechanic, sounds like he's doesn't know what he is doing.

Your need a ColdFusion midshaft housing spacer plate, since the bulk head is flat on a rickter.

Thanks for the help, I am going to do the build myself now as it sounds like it should all pretty much drop in.

Is there anything else I need to order other than exhaust tube, mid shaft spacer and handle pole?

Coupler spacers are a good idea if you want to tune your weight distribution

Badvinny, what does a midshaft/bulk head spacer have anything to do with a coupler spacer...?

You must run a bulk head spacer with a flat bulk head, so the housing can still flex around and fit properly.

You might not need any bulkhead spacer, I never have. Just have to give it a try.

The rrp midshaft spacer / engine coupler spacer are just for preference engine forward or back

Rickters are one of the easiest hulls out there to build. Every thing from a pre 2008 superjet will pretty much just drop in bar pole and hoses etc.

As said you don't need a bulk head spacer (or at least on the 5 I've built I haven't). On my new XFS comp and XFR I fitted both the coupler spacers to try and slow the rotation a bit but on all the others I didn't bother.

It seems as though a few of you don't understand the purpose of a bulkhead spacer. Do as you thinks best op.

Every days a school day...

TBH never really looked at them and never been advised to use one in all the years I've been building skis.

Now you say it though I have had a look back through my old pics.

My Carbon 2011 xfs had a flat bulk head so sounds like I should have run one. Never had any vibration issues etc in the couple of years I had it with a TPE 964 then a dasa 1100.

My 2015 Glass xfs and my 2015 xfs comp both has the recess in the bulk head so looks like they have updated the mould so no longer required.

Take your time to get pump, intermediate and motor aligned right.

Make sure you check the spline engagement on the drive shaft and intermidate.

They are really nice hulls to build.

Think Watcon did some nice tutorial vids on you tube that's worth a watch if you have never done it before.

Ok, I am going to order this tool to help me the the pump alignment. Does the pump use the same shims as the engine mounts?

Vids would be great but I'm struggling to find them, do you have any links?
