Plenty have ridden them in the surf, depends on you and the waves. if salt and overhead equals larger, heavier hulls

For the average rider it's gonna be a struggle . I could ride mine in surf but it wasn't enjoyable for me .

I will ride mine (15 glass) in fresh water surf on the Great Lakes.. 3' are fun, anything bigger with my motor and pump combo and you end up very high and over rotating very easily

I rode my old carbon XFS in small surf and loved it. Did put some rails on the side which made night and day difference to the stability.
With a 701 it flipped of anything.

I rode an XFS and didn't like it, holy poop twitchy and slidy. Had a 1100 though so lotsa power. I would think it would be a heck of a workout in the surf.
