Ride plate question

I have a 95 SN with 5 out of the 6 ride plate bolts working properly. Bought this hull last year and discovered one of the bolts is broken off in the brass insert. Would it be safe to 3200 that insert and ride with 5 of the bolts in the ride plate or should I drill it out and replace the insert? Any tips on replacing those? I found some 1/4” brass threaded inserts at my local hardware store, Its getting hot I want to go ride but also don’t want to water log my ski. Any tips much appreciated.

Most after market hulls only run 4 bolts.. 5 is plenty...add a little glue like you mentioned but between plates and Hull, ride fir the season.. fix if it over winter if you want

If the bolt is broken off in the insert it should still be sealed. Rn skis only have 4 bolts anyway, should be fine to run as is. If you have a welder or a buddy with one, you can weld a nut on the bolt and back it out. Drill it or weld it, either way the ski really needs to be flipped over to do it right. I’d just wait until you need to pull the motor and do it at that time.

Thanks, yeah the bolt is broken in the insert, tried using an extracor to pull it out but broke it off. Should I seal it with marine epoxy or 3200? I really don’t want it to leak but want to be able to fix it right during the winter.

Don’t seal it with anything. It’s not like the ride plate bolting on makes a seal anyway. If the bolt is still in the hole it’s sealed the same as all the others.

the square noses use six 6mm bolts when the rest use four 8mm bolts. put a thick bead of clear silicone on the mating surface and forget about it.
I've seen knuckleheads silicone their plates on and even with the bolts out, you have to pry it off.

Problem is I started fixing it and while there is an ezout stuck in the bolt I would hate for my nice dry foam to get wet, think I’ll at least silicone it until I can fix it correctly with new insert

I am not sure on the SN but on the RN the inserts are sealed as the brass is actually closed on the inside end so no water can get in through the insert, only around the insert if you didn't seal it from the inside. So even with no bolt at all water can't get in through the insert.
