Has anyone made their own ride plate? I made one out of fiberglass resin and cloth. It did not hold up. I want to try again. Any ideas? Some examples help to.

Because of the stresses involve, I'd imagine any ride plate not made out of metal will fail over time.
I think ride plates are made outta 1/4" aluminum (don't quote me). So just get a piece of 1/4" aluminum and cut/bend to your liking.
That's my guess anyways. Too much work to fabricate a ride plate, IMO.

One key to making a composite plate last is making it out of the right materials, and the right thickness. Also, the mounting holes need to be strengthened so they don't fail.
I use epoxy resin, and add a structural reinforcement in the mounting areas.

The mounting holes were my problem. It is for a kawi 650. The holes cracked and broke. So i bailed on even taking it out for a try. I was thinking of imbedding some washers or pipe. Something metal to hold up.
Smurf and I copied some JD plates but we never finished them or tried them.
My Wami composite one seems tough as nails so far.
My WDK one seems tough as nails too.
I think they can be made to last forever. ...and you can easily repair them.
I could never go back to my heavy azz alum one.

my fiberglass one was nice till it flexed and ripped off. but with my alum. one i never have to worry about bumping into a rock and breaking it.

Just made one last week. Broke my metal one so this was just a quick replacement. So far it's held up good but I have another stocker in the mail right now. I'm gonna run the composite plate until it breaks then throw the stocker on.

My latest one has "fins" and are doing a good job of keeping the sliding under control. Its the one thing I don't like about the 650sx. If you lean to far forward to dig in the nose for a hard carve, the back end likes to slide out.
