Good luck. Sounds horrible. Go from long beach and its 29 miles. little shorter. Its a very bumpy ride. Take some photos. You should be able to almost make it all the way across without filling up. But don't let the coast guard or harbor patrol let see u filling up.

I've done some simpler runs. Went around Washington Island here in Wisconsin, it was roughly 25 miles . I jet skied most of the Picture Rocks National Lake shore in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan. That was 12 miles each way and took me 56 minutes total.

I practiced circling my local lake before I left for each (20 miles around). Your main challenge is making sure you have enough fuel. Get a pole spring if you don't have one, your back will thank you.

Good luc! I love Jet ski Adventures.

I have done this before. About 7 years ago I rode a Superjet from Oceanside Harbor to Catalina Island which is about 60 miles one way. The conditions where fairly calm when I crossed, however it still took about 5 hrs to complete, mostly because the chase boat that escorted me had a top speed of around 12 mph. Other than the endurance part, the trip was no big deal, but riding in a straight line for 60 miles can get pretty boring. After you’ve jumped the chase boats wake about 50,000 times there’s not really anything else to do other than to stick with it so you can claim bragging rights. The most challenging part of the ride was trying to keep the salt water out of the skis fuel tank during the 3 times I had to refuel in the middle of the ocean.

Also, don’t even think about doing this without a chase boat, stuff can go wrong very quickly out in the Ocean. Make sure your chase boat is ultra-reliable, has a radio and at least 2 GPS systems.

If you put this together, and you don’t mind an old guy tagging along, maybe I will join you.

I rather quit then sit!
Hey 227,
Nice!!! I'm thinking of starting from marina del rey, so it's only 33 miles, 66 roundtrip. Definitely need a chase boat or some waverunners with GPS and to hold extra gas. Don't know if any boats, but know a few peeps with waverunners.

If I can ever get this trip to work you are definitely invited!

I did it last year (2016) on my Proforce, roundtrip without refueling approx 50miles (unofficially) I ran a 701 61x single 44 carb with an extra 3.3 gallon tank in the front giving me just shy of 11 gallons total , and just barely made it back to the Queen Mary with less than a gallon of fuel left. Me and 2 friends left from Long Beach an hour before the start of official race so we could follow the couches back as we had some crude GPSs and I used only a compass. Avalon harbor is exactly 180degrees due south from the Queen Mary and the island was in clear site after about 10 miles and the return is exactly due North providing you stay on course I carried a waterproof cell phone and a marine radio and flares .The radio proved to be VERY valuable . The 2 superjets that were with me made it 1 mile from Avalon then refueled there skis off another friends trawler that carried gas for us . Upon returning we made it about 5miles when the old Sea Buiscuit Superjet had a hose come loose off the head and drown his carb out and she quit, I contacted my buddy with the marine radio on are pre-arranged channel told him we were about 200yards west of the course the couches were on which were traveling 60 to 70mph single file straight back to Long beach. It was a bit daunting floating in the middle of the ocean for maybe 20-30 minutes you feel kinda small and vulnerable but we stayed together until he arrived put Ricks ski up on the deck and me and Brian continued in cruise mode back to LB . He made it all the way back and his tank was empty and mine was also. I missed 2017 but in 2018 I hope to make it official and enter the race as an (exhibition) and make history as the only standup to make the crossing without refueling. I should win because I will be the only one, LOL

Im in Fort Mohave close to Group k I think. There is a decent standup community that rides real close to me on the river should be fun. I will truely miss the ocean though but time to move on .

I rode LB 2 Catalina last June on my super couch FX SVHO. It was easy going out in the AM with smooth water. It was a pain coming back in the chop. Salt water in the eyes for a long time. I had goggles but that had its own problems with visibility
