Other Riding after a hip replacement?

Ahg sorry to hear Matt! I am not sure how I have held up so well (so far) . I fear the future!

Thanks man, miss riding with you, DJ, and the guys. I live on the east side now so edgewater is 50 min away. Barely have gone out the past few years between work and my body breaking down anyways. Let's get together soon.

@augustaf do you think your new hips could handle wave riding if you desired. I am not talking about aerial stunts and inverts, just catching waves and surfing.

I ride with a guy in his late 50's he has both hips replaced and at least one knee, he rides Surf every weekend. We both Just jump waves and usually go three tanks on SXR's (He jumps way higher than me) If you enjoy something, just do it. Don't let age or body parts stop you, I'll be 60 this summer with no plans on stopping.

Glad to see seniors still doing the sport! You guys rock

Reviving an old thread. Had my hip replaced two years ago. Looking to get a new SXR mainly for lake riding.

Dislocation is my biggest fear. How are the guys that had hip replacements in the thread currently doing?

Thanks, yes I go to the gym 4 times a week and ride mountain bike usually 60 miles as well.

My hip feels pretty strong. Surf riding days are over so I think I should be fine for lake riding.

Whatever your style is, you can do it after the surgery. Post surgery do what they say and more. This is not a bed rest surgery. They want you walking the next day so you maintain your movement range. Oh, its gonna hurt like hell

Yeah my replacement is 2.5 years old should be good. Going to price SXRs tomorrow. I live on a motorized lake so it's great excersise

Youre good, if it were to come out or anything drastic it would have already. Mostly i dont think about it, it is funny though because sometimes you remind yourself a key joint in what makes your body move is fabricated

I'm looking at a knee replacement this fall, I also worry if I'm going to be able to ride in the future. I wonder if recovering from a knee replacement is similar to a hip?

Same concept as a hip. Hard recovery and therapy but worth it. With these replacement surgeries the key thing is using it as soon as possible. The goal is full range of motion by the time you recover. An ex of mine's mother had both knees done. Same surgeon as me. When its all said and done it changes your life for thr better.

Walking around bone on bone in pain is no way to live.

Rotator cuff surgery took me out for a year of riding a few years ago.Rode bikes a lot to help with staying in shape after they let me get back on one. Now it’s my hand and wrist repair. Out at least till August. l really wanted to wait until fall (surgery), but l wasn’t able to swing a 5 lb hammer or lift much. Which directly effects my job.

All of this has effected my riding and haven’t got back to the level as l was before, which wasn’t the greatest anyway. lol
Main thing is don’t quit trying
