There are two gaskets on the red pipes. 1 on the Manifold and another between head pipe and Chamber if either gasket blows out then you will get what you describe. There was a recent thread discussing where the red pipes fail and there were situations noted that both places had failed.

Mine had all the bolts vibrate loose where the main chamber bolts to the head pipe, and yes it made a mess. More impotantly, it came apart in some good surf and I got stuck in an outgoing tide. Thankfully one of my riding partners came to my rescue before I got too far out.

Use loctite and proper torque specs and you should be good to go.

Hope this helps.

the pipe looks like it will suck to work on and if i had to take it apart i would think about getting a b pipe, is their a big diff in power or is it not worth the money that i would have to spend?

that suck i have broken down on the lake a couple of times and had no rope and i had to hold my ski in one hand as a bud towd me inand had to take the pump blast to the face for a good 15 min. i think it streched my arms out an extra in on each side. thanks for the help bra.

the red pipe makes great power, but sucks to work on in a SJ.

id imagine itd be easier in a B1.

get a girdled head with that monster though.

When my red pipe came apart I simply replaced it with a B-pipe rather than mess with it again and again. I just prefer the way the B-pipe lays low in the hull and doesn't put all that weight on the head/cylinders.

The B has better bottom end snap but that Red pulled hard from just off bottom all the way to the top. If I raced or lake rode more I'd actually stick with the red but if you like jumping go with a B. Better brap and lower weight. Combine it with a light flywheel and you will have a killer combo.

My ski with the Red Pipe and TBM Flywheel had some pretty decent power. I was not complaining at all. I went for a B cause I had the money and have always wanted one. Would I go back? Probably not unless I was building a racer but even then, the B is a tuneable pipe that can used in so many applications. It's .just so versatile it's hard to beat. That's why they are so widely used. It doesn't seem to matter what setup you are running, the B-pipe can be setup to match.

i have a Riva head on their with v force reeds Riva water box and a msd plugs and cdi and i only rode it when the head gasket was shot so i will run it this year with the red pipe and see how it is. if and when i have to go with a new gasket set for the pipe iam going to change to a b pipe cause i like factory's stuff and to avoid the head ace next time.

I love the rive red for my blaster. Riva sells a stud kit which significantly improves the pipe to manifold issues. My kit has been on for over 5 yrs...surf ride all the time.
