I would feather it in with sandpaper first to knock down the high spots then mix up some boat bondo "Cabosil and microspheres" to be able to fare it in and sand to a smooth finish. You dont want to remove the material as much as knock down anything that will cause a nail to hang. Then faring should be easy with the boat bondo.

Actual bondo filler is not good for watercraft you want to make it with thickener and resin.

Awesome thank you very much for the help.

I used micro balloons and epoxy resin as my “body filler.” That way there’s no guessing how it’ll bond, and you can vary the thickness of it as you like depending on what ratio you mix the balloons in. Stuff dries hard as a rock, and sands easy. There’s other products out there that achieves the same result of thickening the resin and allowing an easy to sand paste. Just a thought.

But as described above, knock the high spots down with some 80 grit, finish with 120 and fill/flare from there. Good luck dude!

Yessir! Just don’t go crazy sanding the glass, only knock down high spots and fill from there. I spent $20 on a gallon of micro balloons and that filled my entire bondline, all my repairs, the tunnel work and I still had some leftover. Goes a long way

Thank you! Huge help. I was losing hope for myself. Might have some more questions down the road.

Feel free to ask anytime. What worked best for me way to paint a thin coat of resin onto the sanded glass, let it soak and start to gell up, then smear on the resin/micro balloon filler. That way it bonds in well to the resin, and you can mix the filler a little thicker avoiding runs, etc.

Got the footholds roughed in, will put another 4-5 layers on them so they’re rock solid, and obviously carry that across the tray as well. Shooting for at least 60oz of total biax layup. Goodbye resin lol

Been a long time, bought a house so things slowed down. Dug the project put and started getting things back together. Really just looking to get this thing on the water this summer, and upgrade all the crap later. Got the turf on and it’s a 5/10 job. Will do it a lot differently next time I decide to turf the ski, the seams have some big gaps I’ll try to blend with some silicone, but it’s lipstick on a pig at some point haha! Need to shave the engine mounts 0.090” to get good coupler alignment, but I got the pump in and the midshaft in. Feels almost like a ski now and not just a hull

Lower end is in and couplers aligned. Got the ski painted and hood painted, ebox mounted, steering cable hooked up, and nose mounted. Waiting on some elbows to get the exhaust in and then I can mount the tank and route the fuel. We’re getting there!
