RN Superjet reinforcing hull with 1708Biax, where and how thick (couple noob questions)

It will probably be about 400hours too, but I'm not counting; it's just a rough estimate and I honnestly prefer not knowing.

On my side, 1708 was a little more expensive with backing, about 0.40$/yard. Have I known, I would have bought without, now I'm stuck with it and I need to make another order for 1708 without -_-

On my latest layup I used a piece of 1708 just for you. Show you its no big deal

Ill be dropping pics in my thread in an hour or so.

Im sure Im 400 hrs in already. I never counted and vastly underestimate my time.

Thanks! looking forward seeing this hehe, I always underestimate too... I'm also very bad at estimating howmuch time something will take, I can guess 2 hours... might take the day... I cannot seem to get better at it -_-

I used a lot of 1708 in my build for the same reason, I had it so I used it. You can use either filler, I think I mixed 50/50 on mine, cabosil is pretty heavy and glass beads are good for faring and plenty strong enough to fill the bond line imo.

How easy to lay was the 17oz without mat? I Should be buying again from UScomposites soon and I need to choose between 17oz NO mat and 12oz (1208) with mat. Can't decide which one I should be buying. I've been told by a couple guys that 12oz without mat was best, but uscomposites doesn't sell it and they got the best possible prices on epoxy resin kits so I'd like to buy from them

I prefer 17 biax without mat to 1708 for sure for most applications. If there are any bends non backer material is drastically easier to work with. I have never used 1208 or 12oz non backer biax so I cant comment on it but I imagine 12oz similar to lay up to 17 non backer.

Will 17 biax comform to pretty much any shape into a hull? Will it stick to a 90degrees exterior bend and stay there?

Nothing at all I was just reading too fast and missed it. I edited a statement I made about 12oz being available at us composites when It was not. I was jabbing at myself for failing to read it thoroughly.

About the angle it can handle, you will still need to put some cabosil in angles or bevel them if they are real sharp but we are talking less than the radius of a pencil or so so pretty tight corners.

Great! that is exactly the info I needed! The radius of a pencil is pretty much the tightest bend I can imagine I would do!
