Super Jet Roached to Rockered Square Nose

Hey Y'all!
I've been riding and owning standups for about 10 years now. I'm finally getting around to cutting up a SJ hull and modding it to my liking like i should have done years ago.
Id love to just buy a tigercraft or krash and throw in my drivetrain and be on the water but i fall into the "more time than money" category so modding a SJ hull it is.

The hull i'm starting with is a "roached" 95 square nose superjet that had already been wide trayed, shortened 3" in the rear and poorly "smoothed" in front and seen better days.

The "to do" list for the hull:
Defoam.
Shorten bottom another inch.
Shorten tray 3ish inches.
Flat deck.
Rear foot straps with full width foothold at the front.
Lowered hood.
Rocker/shorten front about 5 inches.
Build a aluminum pole.

Deadline: REALLY hoping to have the hull all built by the end of the year and take it to Daytona freeride in January...

This is how the ski looked the day i got it. 2 weeks ago. It was pretty "roached"

Got right to doing a rough cut on the hood and nose and cutting the tray open just to see what i was working with.

After a couple of days of looking at the poorly done and excessivley thick fiberglass job that had previously been done on the front i said screw it and did away with all off it. At this point i was feeling pretty overwhelmed for sure.

In the next 2 pictures you can see that somebody had also "reinforced" the sides of the engine bay but its now delaminating. Im going to try my best to pull all that reinforcement out and then redo it later with epoxy and 1208 once the nose is redone.

More to come soon!

LIttle bit of a update.

Got the top of the hood cut a little closer to its final shape.

Used a heat gun and a chisel to get the hood liner out. Still need to get the rest of the green glue off.IMG_2807.jpeg

Then things escalated a little. lol

I decided i wanted to do a full width front foot hold that will stick into the engine bay a few inches which was going to require cutting down the "horns" on the bulkhead. After some head scratching i decided it would be easier to modify the bulkhead with the top deck removed. With so much of the front and rear of the top deck already cut off it took very little effort to remove the rest of the top deck.

At this point i'm completely winging this because i've definitely never had a ski torn this far apart unless i was about to haul it to the trash dump. haha.
Next things on the 'to do' list is get the bottom deck cleaned up, get the bulkhead cut down and then i'm thinking about glassing/rockering the nose on just the bottom deck first.

more progress coming soon!

More chiseling off poorly done polyester resin repairs.

The biggest thing i think i've learned from this build so far is that i should have started with a less molested hull.

Next i got started on the rocker cuts. Made 5 cuts 2 inches apart. With 4 popsicle sticks shoved in each cut it pulled the nose up 3 inches and got the nose level with the bond line which was my goal.

Im highly considering carving a whole new top deck out of foam instead of building off of the small part of original top deck that i have left. I've been through a TON of the build threads and have not stumbled on anybody who has ever done this but If anybody knows of a build where that has been done and could point me towards it that would be great!

The hood section,l think l would keep.Lots of different angles you will have to duplicate.lts a good base to work out from

No real progress on the hull but i did finally get all the 2 part foam scraped out and did a rough cut on the bulkhead. Looking "better" little by little.

Last week i got a FREE 1999 tigershark 1100 that ran good but had a trashed hull. I pulled the engine and pump with intentions of selling them and then l took the rest of the ski to the landfill.

After pulling the engine and giving it a quick rinse i realized it was in great shape and after a quick google i learned these engines made 135hp in stock form. At this point i was intrigued and just had to set it in the SJ hull to see how it would fit. It fit WAY better than i could have expected so now i'm wondering if it makes any sense to try to put this engine in this hull. I know a lot of people hate on tigersharks in general but from what i've read these 1100's were actually pretty good and 135hp sounds like a great time. lol If i could get the motor mounts and coupler worked out the rest looks really easy to do.

Decided to pull the TS coupler off to see what size the crank threads were. Turns out a yamaha 701 midshaft coupler shares the same threads!!

Really leaning towards putting this thing in the SJ now! I'm going to hunt down a gp760 midshaft so that i can set the 1100 back as far as possible and then attempt to build a Kawi-ish style bedplate since the TS engine has the 4 threaded bosses on the bottom of the engine like a kawi.

Not hating on the shark but I’ve never seen one w out a leak somewhere? Oil or water

These 1100's are supposed to be the 1 good engine they had from what I've read. I'm definitely interested to see how it works out. If it sucks or gives me too many issues all stick my 701 by in and sell the 1100.
