Been crazy busy the past 8 months so the SJ got put on the back burner but i'm ready to get back at it!
Placed a order with US Composites last week. Got a gallon of resin, 1208 biax, some medium weight woven cloth and some cabosil. For some reason they shipped the glass separately and i'm still waiting but it should be here tomorrow.
Got right into it where i left off last september. Taped up the bottom side of the rocker cuts and then filled in the gaps on top with a thick cabosil/epoxy mix.
Going to let that cure good and get to work on laying some glass on the nose once it shows up in the mail.

Got started on the lowered hood today.
Used a combination of duct tape and hot glue gun to hold the election sign plastic in place.
Put down 2 layers of 1208 biax on the inside. Man that stuff sucks up the resin!
Once its cured and i can pull the plastic off i'm going to determine how much more glass it needs. i've got some lighter cloth that i'm going to use to do ateast 1 layer on the outside.

So for the record election signs work great but epoxy WILL pull the ink off. Havent tried yet to see if it sands off easy. In hindsight maybe i should have waxed the sign lightly.

Slowly but surely making some moves. Used a 80grit flapdisc on a grinder to take out the factory tank/waterbox mounts and get down to a good clean surface in the nose.
Then rigged up a less than ideal nose outline from some TIG filler rod and duct tape. I could have definitely done better but i was in a hurry and im just hoping this works out.
Then i laid down 4 pieces of 1208. 2 on each side. Kinda ended up with a RN SJ shape but its exacly 6" shorter than factory and rockered up about 3"
This is before i laid any nose glass but it shows how the new rocker is looking.
Weather is finally looking good in Nc so im hoping to keep chugging along on this thing in between work and family stuff. I hate doing all the fiberglass cutting and grinding in my shop so the good weather helps my motivation. haha

I know the og builder of this ski. I think there's a thread on it somewhere. The bottom glass repair was done on Carolina beach during the first or second freeride when he cracked the bottom, went to local hardware and got some poly resin cause that's all he could find and repaired it on the beach. That was 2014-2015ish surprised it held up as long as it did haha

Got the nose trimmed to shape today and i'm pretty stoked on the way its starting to look!
The next thing i want to do is get started on the nose on the top deck. What do yall think is the easiest way to go about forming a solid shape to glass over? Right now im thinking about stacking some pink xps foam and just sanding it to the desired shape and then glassing over it. What do yall think?

Got started on shaping the nose with some home depot xps foam. Cut 4 pieces to the rough size and glued them together overnight with gorilla glue.
Traced out the "footprint" that i needed for the nose shape and used a vertical bandsaw to make that cut nice and square.
Then used a combination of a rasp, handsaw and 80 grit sanding block to start shaping the top of the foam to follow the angle of the hood.
The foam needs a good bit more shaping before its ready for glass but im happy with the direction its headed. This is my first time working with the xps and its surprisingly easy to deal with.

Agreed! it will endup with plenty of angles before i glass it.
Nope! epoxy lets go of it no problem. Its gorilla tape specifically. I dont know if that makes any difference.

I let the glass cure for a couple days and it pulled off of the foam plug with a little effort and then i did a quick trim on the rough edges to see how it looked.
Im pretty happy with the look overall but i know it could have been better if i had the patients to keep playing with the shape. Im just ready to ride this thing. Now i need to bond the new nose piece to the bottom deck and get started on reinforcing the whole inside of the nose. How thick should the fiberglass be where the pole bracket bolts?

my round nose is close to 1/4 inch thick in the handle pole area

As stated, stock is about 1/4". Mine cracked so I added 4 layers of 1708 for about another 3/16" thickness. That is a large flat surface which is only supported on the ends. Adding some geometry on the inside will strengthen it considerably. Think about a large flat piece of steel vs a truck bed with ridges. I'd take some 1/2" pink foam and rip it on a table saw to 1.5" wide strips and 45* the edges. Make an x pattern on the inside that extends to the edges and lay glass over that. Since you're using 1208, I'd use at least 6 layers overall.
I'm no glass expert and don't claim to be. That's just how I'd go about it.
