Super Jet rockered fixed steer superjet build thread

a little history.. i bought these 5 skis 2 years ago previously only owning and riding a js440 my plan was to buy them self a few and keep the bob and round nose.... well that’s not how things pinned out lol. all skis are gone other than the square nose which was already mutilated when i got it so i figured why not?? well about a year ago i started to chop on it and begin the rocker process but didn’t get too far but just recently started back on it full force the plan is rockered front chopped and rockered rear and fixed steer hood with waveblaster suspension steering. i have just about all parts for this build including the hood the steering an eye 967 with dual 46’s, a 148 torrent mag pump and a power factor pipe along with many other shiny parts. just have to get the glass work finished up. please subscribe and give any and all tips

at this point most of the cutting was done and it was time to start stenciling the tray and rails out with cardboard before cutting the foam board for the real thing. i tried 2 different designs i free handed on some cardboard and instantly loved the dip with rounded corners so i went with it. more pics to come

have a little more time to share more pics! after i got most everything cut it was time for the fun to start... glass work woo hoo :/ also pics included of the rails and nose during stenciling and foam which i will be glassing over.

at this point i’m just laying glass on the nose to get the rocker to hold in place rather than the all thread i was using ha. also i put the ski beside a stock length superjet to show how much i’ve changed which was wild to see. after this i started to use cardboard to stencil off my bond rails and the back of the tray more pics of that to come

This little fixed steer is going to be a blast! I can't wait to see it in action. I'll be following this build closely. I fell in love with them after getting my RN fixed steer and spending LOTS of time on it this Summer.

i wish i had the time this summer to build it so i could be riding it right now! oh well can spend more time on it and get it perfect this winter

more time i can upload pics of progress so far. after i got the nose in place with a layer of glass i could remove the all thread and nuts i had holding the rocker in place. after that i started to use cardboard to stencil out my bond rails and laid a layer of glass over them starting with the nose.

This ski has a nice profile to the rocker. Also, forgive me if you already mentiond this, but is that a Tom21 fixed steer hood? I have on on my Round Nose and love it.

thank you! i saw someone do a rocker similar to this and loved the shape vs a carterb rocker. this is a tom 21 hood! post pics of the round nose!

Here's my fixed steer RN in action. @MarkWalker 's wife snapped this pic when a buddy and I randomly saw them on their boat a couple weeks ago. I'll snap a few more close up pics this weekend. I sold my SN Superjet and replaced it with a fixed steer and I must say, it was one of the best decisions I ever made. I LOVE fixed steers now. And I must say that @tom21 does amazing work on his hoods. I get compliments from mine wherever I go with it.

after i got the nose bond line put back on the ski even with the rest of the bond line i started to shape my new bond rail and back of the tray with cardboard and got it glassed up. super stoked with the outcome and how it’s starting to come together.

the last mods to the shape of the hull was to widen the bottom of the ski for more stability and easier recoveries. i took 1 inch thick foam board cut it and glued it to the hull and glassed over it. also not sure i ever shared but i widened the intake area and got some glass laid on it this weekend. wont be too much changes from here on just a lot of glass work over what i’ve already got in place.

I'm really starting to see how it's going to look when it's finished now. Very, very nice work! It looks like you've got some experience with fiberglass.

Those built in front tubbies should certainly help with stability. After all the fiberglass is added, approximately how much additional weight will the hull have over the stock Superjet hull?

i appreciate compliment although this is my first big fiberglass job. i have refoamed trays and such but never to this extent! i weighed the bull today as it sits in last pics and it weighs 70lb with not a single bolt in it. my hood with steering came out at 30lb. i imagine i’ll add another 10-20 pounds of glass hopefully more like 10

I like how the rails follow the rocker... I might have to go a similar route if I end up rockering my JS build so at least one of my skis doesn't throw water directly into my face all the time lol

What did you use over the cardboard to keep the epoxy from sticking to it?
