most likely becuase of not knowing who was coming........... if only 20 people come you loose your ass as a promotor................... plus the Parker race is the same weekend............. Brian Baldwin, Eric Lagopolis, Erminio Iantosca, Billy Dearman, David McConnel, Bill Haig, David Cabrara, plus others will most likely be at Parker instead.

Two up and two down another banner year...

If participation is low consider this:

1. Most people have to plan a weekend trip, be it one hour or 12 hours away. There in nothing more disappointing than having a trip cancelled.

2. Most people don't want to tie up a couple hundred dollars in registration and reservation fees only to have it cancelled. I live 20 min. away and I haven't registered for just this reason.

I have posted this over and over until I am blue in the face.......................

Mike does not require you to pre pay....... He does need the preregistration so he knows how many people are coming........... SO, until racers get responsible enough to do their part more races will get cancelled.........

As of this morning there were ZERO pre-entries......... do you think you would throw away 7500.00 for a weekend with only 10-15 racers? That is exactley what would happen to Mike if only 10-15 racers showed up........... So ask yourself, what would you do in his shoes.

Cant blame Mike , I wouldnt chance losing alot of $$ . It does stink that there is not more people getting into this sport . I guess I better preregister for Mooresville and Myrtle Beach .

not to mention it parker is the same weekend as that and it is also mothers day weekend.... he sent out a myspace bulletin explaining this

I am not a promoter. It is not my job to figure out what I would do in his shoes. I am a supporter and financer of races. My responsibility is to decide which races to support and finance (through registrations). You tell me how to keep interest in attending races when I make plans with my family and then I have to cancel those plans three or more time a season. I am tired of telling my family that another trip is cancelled. This is a legitimate complaint. I like Mike and I have attended and supported every race he has had for the last three years except Panama City last year when it was moved to the third date. I will be there this year as well. I am not one to stir the pot for a thrill and I do not mean this as an attack on anyone. This site is a forum to discuss racing and I am using it for that. I would like to see better organization and follow through on every level.

its a lot harder then people think...last year i tried 10 laps i thought was a piece o cake ...almost give up when he showed half sign...i thought fock that man
but james didn't quit so i had to finish

Wuss! Just kidding. Much harder than I thought too. I damn near quit the 1st moto; the second, old man strategy worked for me. I had it made 'cause I could cruise thru the turns @5mph to catch my breath and make up the loss pinning it on the straight (much faster ski).

That's a legitimate complaint. We're just tring to put on a race and it doesn't work with poor participation (yes, the date choice was mine; my fault). Hope you make it for Aug 11/12! I apologize for messing up any plans you (or anyone else) made.

Any advice on minimizing scheduling screwups in the future? (I'm not speaking ill of hotwater or the freeride, but they both published their schedules after we did (as far as I know)). I'm frankly embarassed at having to move things, but you gotta do what's good for the sport and the pocketbook.

Thanks
James

Thankya, GUMP. Strangely, Mother's day weekend is typically a low occupancy weekend for hotels... so we can offer lower rates to you guys.

(But generally there are lots of folks staying in condo's so you get spectators)

yeah, but at least in the case of the freeride...it has been held on the same weekend for at least the last three years...it is common knowledge...

i feel for everyone involved, this is a crap situation...we all know mike young does the best he can and i for one can respect any decision that he is involved in as sound...

that being said...i am maybe a little glad the date got moved...before we had no chance of attending and now we can actually make that race...

(see, there is always a bright side lol...)

I agree with the brightside; we'll have fun down here.

Mike's the bomb; a pleasure to work with. Yes the Lanier ride has stuck to a date. Now it's a little different and that's cool. I made the best scheduling decision I could at the time (Jan07).

I hope to see you guys in August!!!

Did anyone mail reminders to everyone who raced there last year? Every one who raced Surf and Turf? Every APBA member in Region 7? I still get mail from region 5 and we raced there one time three years ago. It is a small investment for a big return. What about a few bucks off for early entry or buy six rounds at a time and get a discount? The website is completely outdated. There are many ways to "promote" and I have seen very little promoting from anyone but the local hosts.

The only problem with having the race in Aug, is that it is sure to kill the attendance for the Tupelo race. If people have to choose between a small pond or the surf, they will choose the surf.
Back to back races and 7+ hrs of travel usually means "Gotta pick one..cant afford both"

Im sure it will all change again by June anyway, so I'll just play it by ear.
