Rollin'

I've been practicing rolls for a few weeks now. Every time I've gone out I've learned something and improved a tiny bit.
I had some small rotation issues to work out, but: the biggest problem that was keeping me from rolling was my setup wake and consequently, height.
People kept telling me that I've had my rotation down pretty good already and was missing height.

I have finally begun to work that problem out. It's not 100% consistent yet, but I have my setup wake worked out to where I am a good ways off the water when I am inverted (Phill tells me ~3 -4 ft - don't know about that).

Today I have finally had a couple good attempts that I would probably call a roll. They were not all the way around, but quite a bit past 3/4. And I landed them with both feet in the holds and rode out of them rather quickly.

Congrats:headbang: sounds like you are almost there. I hope to get my roll on next season, its becoming too cold to ride here any longer.

Crap, and I thought it was getting too cold around here!! We will prolly have a few more weekends before the water temp drops into the low 50s. Air temp is getting down to the 50-60 range on good days. Next real riding will prolly be Daytona in Jan.

Here are some pics of the roll attempts by Matt. I apologize for the poor picture quality. The pics were from a disposable waterproof camera and were taken (at least some from floating in the water alongside my ski).

I tried to wait as long as possible to take the pics so the ones that look like you are not that far out of the water you are actually returning to the water, the one you rode out of and in the pic you are like 3/4 around (pic #2)

It seems to be if I can put myself closer to the ski - in other words, not hang off of it - I can get around no problem. I got the height.

I bet pics and vids can rapidly decrease learning time. Unfortunateley my freinds prefer riding over taking vid or pics of me riding, what up w/ dat lame shjot???? :banghead: :17:

Having friends observe what I am doing and honestly critique me helped a great deal. You can't improve unless you know what you're doing wrong.
Additionally, I have watched videos over and over and over.

My ski has nice power and good instant (Total Loss) snap. However, I feel that technique is far more important than power.
Case in point: I can do the same thing with PHill's ski, which has a bit less power than mine (not much though - but the power delivery and timing is different)

Ha....yeah, I've been working on that. :arms: Now if I could only concentrate on keeping myself over that hood, too! :frown:

You are a long way back in the ski and it looks like you are a bit too high, maybe if you crouch a bit more and 'hug the ski' a bit more you could squeeze out some more rotation.

You're getting there.Try to ''jump more'' with the ski, don't let it do the roll alone, go with it,try to pull the ski with your legs and than it will go higher and spin faster.Concentrate on getting the back of the ski higher.I don't know if I'm saying what I want, but to see better what I mean, watch some videos of my rolls that are on superjett site. That may help you.BTW, beautyful lake!
