Apparently Rule decided it was time to update old faithful and come out with a new line of bilge pumps.

Thankfully, it appears that the old style is still available as the new ones will not fit any existing brackets.

Anyways, here is one of the new Rule 360 GPH pumps in a side by side with the old style 500GPH. The old style 360's and 500's were identical in size but you can see here that the new 360 is a tad taller and apparently the new 500 is even taller yet.

Yeah, there's actually a couple decent improvements.

The one way valve;

There's also an assortment of different style outlets available, including a 90deg bend;

Good afternoon guys. In doing my scouting on bilge pumps I stumbled into this thread. I too was curious at why the newer pump that is supposedly more efficient uses more amps so I emailed Xylem Flow Control and below is their response. So good news it appears it is more efficient according to their data sheets.

The new pump (500) is .4" taller and 1/8" wider.

"If you look at the first attachment of the old 25D pump, it had an amp draw of 2.5 amps @ 13.6 volts.
This is with the engine running and it is charging the battery.
If you look at the second attachment for the 25DA, you will see that it draws 1.8 amps @ 13.6 volts.
This indicates that the pump is more efficient and draws less amps."

So where does it say the new ones use more amps as you stated?

I didn't (originally) state it. In reading this thread I saw restosud's post "wonder why the 360 draws more amps than the 500" and misread it. Thought he said old 500 to new 500. When I looked at the site this appeared to be true (also). Below are screenshots on what is listed as specs on their site. They list the 25D (old one) at 1.9 amps and the 25DA (new one) at 2.7.

Upon contacting them they provided tech data and response in my above post.

Maybe someone with some time could drop one of each of these in a bathtub with say an 18" rise on the hose and see what each are really pulling down:)

i bought a new style 500gph pump this past year that had the check valve in it. when i would turn the pump on it would pump briefly then stop pumping as if it would loose its prime. removed the check valve and it would work as it was supposed to. im not sure how or why but the check valve caused the pump to not work properly.

All 3 of my trusted suppliers are now sold out of the original style Rule's so I ordered form another source that still showed them on their website, unfortunately when they arrived, they were in fact the new style 25DA's. :mad:

I ripped them pretty hard about not contacting me prior to making a substitution and now they seem less than enthusiastic about me returning them.

So, I either have to send them back or suck it up and try to sell them. And of course it happens when I place a larger order so it's not like I just have one or two on the shelf. :mad::mad::mad::mad:

will the newer style 25DA 500s fit under the midshaft like the older ones did?
