Rule bilge Pump problem

well my one main bilge pump finally went (8 years old now) so replaced it with a new rule 500gph pump
went out saturday, lasted less then a 1/2 tank being on
we were sitting in the water, i heard my pumps on, then heard one of them like sieze up
i thought maybe i f-ed up the wire connection
got home, checked it out, and looks like the pump fried itself
it has that burnt smell to it, and is sort of distorted up top and you can't spin the blade either
my original secondary one was will working too, but secondary i mean my second pump

anyone have this problem with a new rule pump
just sucks, not to mention maybe i got off lucky that it didn't start a fire or cause a major issue
fuse never went either... wierd

I have been running dual Rule 500 GPH pumps on my SXR for the last 3 years. They are on the whole time I ride and have yet to fry one.

ive fried a few. melted one of them down pretty good. didnt blow the fuse either. dont know what it is but hate changing them.

it is a PITA to change
and i was worried about it causing a fire inside and taking other things out with it
I have a feeling a factory defect
i'll be sending it back, but i know that process is a PITA to do
i have another on order

only other time i needed to replace one was due to snail shells being sucked in (well tha was on my friends ski)
the one that went out on me was again 8 years old and used alot, it sits a little lower and usually pumps more out then my other one
i am also going to try to rig the stock one back in as well
ruined my weekend for wanting to sub the ski more

the only problem I had with my bilge so far was after about a year and a half my bilge on/off switch had electrical issues and stopped working. Stupid f$%^$ing thing...$70 for a little over a years fun. BS. They need to warranty that stupid thing.

I bought a rule bilge from my mechanic in a package deal with the switch that they don't make anymore. It's installed as the only pump in my SN.

I hate that piece of crap screen. Every ride out, just about, a piece would break off the screen and get caught in the impeller. I bet that's what happened to you, Don 79 TA. Did you have a fuse inline?

I left off the screen and it works much better. Cheap plastic piece of crap.

yup
has a fuse
and nothing was caught in it
i was hoping something stopped it, but it didn't
like i said could just be something defective, judging from the way it melted and stop, i'm sure it is

They must be making those pump new pumps in China now.

I use the ones that have the snap in cartridge so when you mount the pump body to the hull with 3M 5200 they can be easily swapped out and examined for debris.

I'm running an attwood tsunami 800gph on the automatic switch in the back of my ski and a tsunami 500gph on a toggle in the front of my ski and it works like a charm. I really like the attwood automatic switch because it just snaps onto the base of the tsunamis. I used 5200 to secure the bases and the motors are interchangeable. I was running a single rule 500 and hated it, it was always air locking and getting trash hung up inside it.

Just my .02. :unitedstates:

what causes this?? this happen once a year. since i run two i leave it until the winter tear down. if i did replace it right away i would probably go through more. whats wrong.

Thats what all mine looked like, again my attwoods havent even failed let alone looking like they are going to burn my ski up. I dont know the exact cause since sometimes the switch's failed but then a couple of them were hard wired in?

what attwood are you running? where do you have it in your hull? do they fit back behind the coupler under the midshaft? maybe ill try a new brand.

That looks like something clogged the impellor and caused the bilge pump motor to cook.

I run without a fuse. 100% of the time I'm riding the bilge is running. Rule 500. Blue base piece held to the hull with 5200.
(nothing fancy)
More load draws more amps. A clog is load.

id be afraid to run without a fuse. im guessing this is what tripped my fuse. id hate to see it if it kept melting and my hull was dry.
