Super Jet Running Solas Mag Pump with 08+ SJ Big Hub Stock Impeller

Hey guys, couldn't seem to find an answer to my question on an existing thread. I am looking to get a Solas 144 Mag Pump as they seem to be a good performance upgrade at under $500. However, I don't want to spend close to $300 on a Hooker or similar impeller, because I already have a 08+ RN big hub impeller, re-pitched to 10/16 by Impros. My question is, will this impeller work with the Solas pump? Anybody done this before?

If you have/are running this setup or similar, any input would be appreciated. This could be a good option for those on a budget, who can't drop $800 on a pump and impeller setup.

Thanks in advance!

yes, that prop (post 08'=oem big hub pump) will fit with the solas mag. The mag is a big hub pump, so the props from pre 08 won't work to good (they will fit, just leaves a big gap between the prop blade and pump veins and there will be a step from the prop hub to the pump hub). Make sure that you buy the metal ring that takes up the gap between the mag and wear ring...the rubber one is junk IMO. You may need to add a washer or small spacer between the pump and prop, that is not uncommon even with a hooker prop.

I can't comment on the factory impeller working, but x2 on the spacer, or have your impeller trimmed back. I had a buddy put two different hooker impellers on his lathe and shaved off a little over 1/16th of an inch to keep the impeller from interfering with the hub of the stator.

If it was me, i'd sell your SJ impeller and put the money towards a AM impeller that you KNOW will work... :dunno:

Without any idea what kind of power you are making or what other pump tuning you've done it's not easy to say that it will or will not work. If the impellar you have is working for you now then give it a shot. The 12 vein is a nice addition, but it should'nt throw everything off so much that what you have won't be at least a good starting point. If it's close changes can be made to nozzle bore size that could make it spot on. Just a thought, have fun and good luck.

Nothing wrong with the 08 prop. Side by side to my hooker 10/16 they looked identical. Idk if you need the shims. I linked the shims just in case you need them. My hooker prop needed a few, otherwise when it was tight it would hit the pump housing.

Thanks for the input guys. I have finally assembled my pump and put the impeller on, ended up needing a thinner impeller shim to bring the impeller closer to the stator section, had a 2mm gap with the stock spacer. Looks great, can't wait to get it in the water and test!

The impeller alone is worth about half the total gain with small engines. If your budget is tight just do the prop and bore the nozzle.
