Runs poorly after 5-10 minutes

I sunk my ski in daytona and now at full throttle it's like the spark is breaking up after 5-10 minutes of riding. Sometimes it would be fine, other times it would clear up a little, but the last ride it wouldn't clear up.

It has a JM rebuilt coil and a modded CDI. Few weeks ago I went to change the failing bendix (was bad before sinking) and discovered some water intrusion in the flywheel cover. The stator didn't look too bad. Is this a common symptom of a failing stator?

Just had same issue. Coil swap and problem gone! It was the wires from testing pipes and stressing wires installing and removing various pipes and motor combinations. Wires break internally easy!

I would be bummed if it's the coil because I bought the JM coil 2 seasons ago. It's like new because I don't ride a lot.

Not sure how bad it sunk or for how long it was in water or ie water level in engine bay, but wondering if water entered your fuel system & tank via the vent valve, or water is behind the stator cover or in your Ebox..
or carbs

If it was a real bad sinking, I’d drain all of these plus the carbs, and put in new plugs and continue riding to dry the engine out more...

When I get water in i get the won’t clear out stumble intermittently

Good luck

We had it out and running less than 5 minutes. I cleaned the carbs, emptied the tank, and changed the check valve. Ebox dry.

That’s good. How long have you ridden it since ?

Reason I ask is, if you’ve ridden it for a hour or 2 then the engine is dried out and the issue is something else...

I did have a oddly failing cdi that did that last year.....

Have any picks of your stator your can share with the group ?

Now that I think about it, I got a small amount of water back flowed thru pipe, not enough to not restart... well it took I’d say an hour of riding before it ran normall again

I’ve had a similar problem with an 04 sj. The ski would run for 5-10 min then would go to “overheating mode” and only run on one piston. I didn’t have a temp sensor but once I put one on it ran just fine. I know it sounds weird and all but it worked surprisingly
