I’ve been using it on my build and it seems good quality. It’s about the only one out there that doesn’t cost an arm and a leg. Seems like a lot of people use it in builds on this site. It takes a while to dry but that’s in a ~65 degree basement. The working time is great but it isn’t really solid for 12-18 hrs. It needs about a day and a half or more to sand or it’ll gum up the paper in my experience. This is the 3:1 medium set.

Cool, that has been my experience so far as well. granted I have only made a flat sheet so far.

Left the vacuum on for about 12 hours. Still was a little tacky so I brought it in and put it by the fire until tomorrow. Far as today's attempt on forward progress is bagging a carbon tube for my scupper. Probably a waste of time but, f it why not?

Well I think my first attempt at bagging was somewhat of a success. Came out a little thinner than I wanted but I will work nice as the start of my new hood. With the cold weather it took a bit longer to cure than I thought (ADD was kicking in bad yesterday) but after over night next to the fire of pulled off nicely. And so smooth and shiny , I am going to like this. So being my first attempt I only used 4 layers of cloth (two of 10oz e-glass and two biaxial ). For my tray I will be doing the same way but will be adding a few layers of 1708 to build it up a bit more.

Haven't really been doing a lot. I got the hood to the shape I think I want, just need to sand it down then work on the inside. Also added a layer of 1708 to the inside of my chop job from last year. Now I can cut in the scupper and exhaust and button up the under tray plumbing so I can 5200 them. The March freeride is right around the corner, fingers crossed that it will be done.

Didn't take to many of it coming apart. Just cut out the inner liner and that's basically it. Right now it's just the flat sheet off glass that I tried bagging with strips of 1708 around the edges. And I think it might even be tall enough to add some 1" ridged isolation to the underside and then glass over that as well.

I have been fighting a miss in my ski for years. And every time I find something that could be the problem and fix it of upgrade it, the miss still comes back. Many trips to the lake the ski runs great for a while then slowly starts crapping out. After the last pismo trip I figured it out; water was soaking the air filter. Some people say the stock arrestor it's the best way to keep the water out and and some people say that the way the tornado filters help with air fuel mixture. Why not both? So today it is actually raining here so I modified a stock spark arrestor today for my 46. One day this idea will be able to use the tornado style filters in a stock looking air box. Figure some people will maybe like it

So now that the weather is warming up i will be trying ro get this thing finished up. Got the holds set in place and some what glassed in. Still waiting on my cabosil to show up so I can fill in the backside of them and lay glass over it. Got the sides cut down to wher I liked. Then cut out pieces from a sheet of glass I vacuume sealed to fill in the blanks. I have a lot of glassing and sanding in my future but I am really happy how it is starting to look. Also think that I have a way to make the front foothold work, just more time and work. I am a little sad that I had to cut up my favorite jetmanic sticker, sometimes sacrifices need to be made.

I really like what you are doing with this one, keep it up!

I had a question about the way you did the floor. I see some glass right over the foam and some do a plate like you did and then glass that in once it is cut out to fit.

Do you think there are any advantages to the plate method? I imagine keeping the floor true is one but what about the gap between the glass and foam? Did you put some thickened epoxy under the plate as well?

There are a few reasons that I went with a sheet of glass. One of the main reasons is learning how to vacuum bag, and learning how different types of fiberglass layup. Another is to save weight, vacuuming out extra resin seems like a good idea to me. And it's the best way to make crisp straight lines. I spent quite a few hours cutting pieces of foam and stuffing them around all the lines and pipes under the tray. I made the foam stick up about 1/4 above the bond line (what my tray now sits on. So it is about an inch lower in the front now) and when I set it in cabosil I put some weight on it to hold everything down tight so there would be as minimal deflection as I could get. Sure there are cons to doing it this way, but every one skins their cats differently.

And this is where I left off last night. Going to glass in the old exhaust hole and the the sides of the tray today before a round of wack f*ck. Then some foam, finish glassing it in, some padding and turf and I will be in the home stretch.

Well now that it is going to be 90 next week and I finally got the garden finished. it's time to get this thing finished. One more good sanding one more layer of glass some more sanding. Then I will be ready to try and vacuum bag the tray with a few more layers of glass for strength and rigidity. Still pretty much looks the same
