Thanks for the input everyone. i am going to go with a hotrods crank. if i was going to build a stock motor i would probably have gone with the sbt.

I like to make some mexican jokes, but I am not really calling anybody out. BUT if you want your crank rebuilt in the states so it's not rebuilt by a "mexican" how do you know that the guy at the US factory isnt a Mexican rebuilding the cranks anyways?

I am running a fresh SBT crank w/OEM needle bearings with a TLR freestyle ported flattop 785cc...... Run her till she blows is my plan, when the motors fails I will find the week link then.

hotrods vs sbt

I had an SBT crank. It was in the ski when I got it. The engine had been rebuilt maybe 2 seasons before I picked it up. I tore it down this past winter and noticed that the crank was making a "rattling" noise.

The cost of rebulding this would only be slightly less than going with a new hotrods, so i decided to go with the new crank for the peace of mind. I was told to use new OEM seals regardless of which crank I chose.

From what I have gathered after speaking to a very knowledgeable individual, the issues that people may have with the cranks result from the parts that SBT uses in their rebuilds. The quality of the labour should be top notch, as the guy who does the rebuilds/oversees it used to rebuild cranks for some very reputable engine builders.

I had bad luck w/ one Hot Rod crank, but it seems that was a fluke of some sort... never could figure out what happened, the mid bearing just went bad after 4 months...

I talked to Kevin at Crankworks. he said it was better to have an OEM crank rebuilt than go with a hot rods crank. He said the oem webs are better. Also when Kevin rebuilds your crank he uses Hot Rods and true and welds your crank. Hotrod cranks do not come true & welded.

ive used 2 sbt crank's and no problems yet.

been happy with them so far,

now im in the same position, i need a crank for my big pin 750, options for me are. i would rather spend he money and get a good one, but not over 450.....

i had a stroker motor built for my quad a few years ago and every builder i talked to recomended rebuilt oem over hotrods stating the same thing, that oem webs were better.i was also told in that same aplication that hotrods rods were junk and they had seen many failures.they also had pics of broken rods to show the difference in the density of the rod material.some of this was on their website,i'll see if i can find the pics

You guys are killing me. now i'm leaning towards sbt again they are only $275 shipped. i think the special ends today though so i better figure it out quick.

I'll have our sales group extend the special until May 11th for anyone with an X-H20.com account. The only thing I ask is that you post your thoughts on the crank after you have seen it, installed it, and run it for a while. Just tell Ms. PWCToday (Steph) in sales about this post when you (or anyone else) goes to order.

I used an SBT crank in a 800 and it is going strong no problems!

He is Probably in the business because he knows that there is nothing better then OEM...... I have heard many bad things about siezco as well...... I will let you guys know how the SBT holds up to the 785flattop..... the crank looked and felt realy good, I also noticed the rods looked to be a little beffier then stock :cool2:

Run away SBT bashers!
