Sealed total loss box

I've been thinking about it for a while and I'd like to enclose my total loss brain and possibly the coil inside a waterproof box. I was thinking that at least the top of the box would need to be clear so you can see if water has gotten in.

Any ideas on what the best way to attach the sides together would be? I think a thick plastic would be best but metal sides and backing might be strongest. Not sure if a standard epoxy or evne JB weld would hold it together though. I've also considered running a girdle bolt style setup to keep the top and bottom together.

I'm interested in hearing other peoples ideas on this.

Yeah I spent about an hour looking through things that are considered enclosures and boxes. Found some real nice setups but at a real "nice" price. Couldn't find anything that I thought would fit for under about $65 and some were over $100. I'm thinking I may just go back to plan A with building one out of polycarbonate or regular plastic from home depot.

Waternut - My advice would be to do it once and do it right, I cant see the problem of throwing $100 to make sure your $1000 ignition is lovely and dry.

Keith T-I am not criticizing at all-but I don't see the MSD controller in your box-am I missing something? The problem I have found is that the MSD controller is NOT 100% waterproof. It seems to me that if you wanted a part in a moisture proof box it would be the actual MSD controller.

Gil, No probs - its an ATP set up - the brain is ally in colour and is at the bottom left hand side of the pics, held in place by three tiewraps

I agree that you have to make an investment to protect your investment. However, since the MSD brain is semi-waterproof, it's hard to drop $100+ on protection when it's debatable on whether it even needs it. I'm just looking for a little more insurance for piece of mind.

I placed an order for some clear polycarbonate. My plan is to put the brain and coil inside but leave the solenoid outside since they are cheap and reliable. Plus that reduces the number of wires that need to go into the box.

I can find rubber grommets for the spark plug wires but I'm struggling to find something to hold the individual wires that go to the brain itself. Anyone know of anything?
