No ban on Skies, Just the cops are watching now from the beach. Cops said any ski within 600ft of the shore east of the bridge will be given a ticket. On small days thats normally the waves I ride. Going to have to start riding daytona more often! Kinda sucks that much of the beach has been closed. Never seen them close such a large section of beach. Been going to that beach for 16 yrs now.

You should have seen how many boats used the Spot ramp. Like Dan said, it was a zoo.

Damn, it use to be the fishermen, now its both!

FYI - this has to do w/ birds not jetskis or boats.... no access is being denied at this point. You just can't go in the area where the birds are nesting. They do this every year and should not be that big of a deal.
I've seen the driving area made smaller for the nesting season each year. They used wire signs and string. They have never closed the area completely as long as I've been here.
Also FYI: The area that is closed is not State or County run. It actually Federal. It is considered part of the Fort Matanzas National Monument. Therefore a fight like Daytona would not be the same. It's a whole different ball game with the feds.

Somehow this thread got headed in an unintended direction!
It was just about a great spot getting crowded because of bird nests.
I've not heard any talk of banning anything.

if you read my posts there has been a federal decision to close the national seashore conservation areas to pwcs and boats under 20' because of possible damage to the sea grasses and the soundscapes that harbor the wildlife.

The 600ft rule has prolly always been inplace, but never really inforced. So can you ride south of the inlet less than 600ft in...like towards the domehome since it's not Fed property?

The squatters will ruin it if they keep coming there. The homeowners around the creek will get upset if there's couches flying by all the time.

Whatever you do, don't try to go around the other way from the launch. It's not washed through all the way. :eek:uch:

If that is the case here, then they would not "have" to ban ski's or boats. The section of beach that is closed to traffic was the only "beach" pwc's could launch from. It's already illegal to launch from the area that is still open to traffic. However, as I said B4, a fight of monster proportions would happen if they tried to keep ski's or even jon boats, flounder giggers, or anything under 20' from using the waterways.
Also: I believe the national park ends at the north side of the bridge. If that is so, then the only waterway they would have authority to close would not affect secret spot riders. You just could'nt ride around the island, past the fort.

It's do-able at high tide.

i doubt the homeowners differentiate between couches and stand-ups. we like to think that people like us better but they hate us equally. what will kill things in my opinion is an increase in numbers. the cops dont pay attention till the amount and/or frequency of traffic becomes a problem.

i agree with idok, that the rule has probably been in place all along, there just wasn't a big enough problem to worry about.

Valid point. It's not about couch vs. stand-up. It's about volume and crowd. All forced to use Summer Haven creek as a launch. The homeowners, to my knowledge, have not yet bitched. But let's see what happens.

Gotta get there early & line 'em up!
What did he do when a fishing boat came to use the ramp?

I got there around 8:00 & left around 10:30. Lots of people fishing, no boats around. This guy had lines every where! I'm sure he wasn't happy, I was tuning my pipe so I had a few trips back to shore.

Cops in full force, boat ramp & Marine Patrol out in the inlet!
