Nah, no poor assembly.

I've been wrenching and assembling engines for 18 years on tons of KAW and YAM standups and never seen this problem ever before.

I'm sure you did shorten the spark plug leads and did the simple stuff.
This is frustrating.

Checked the magnets and the plastic housing on them and all was good.

They were brand spankin new plugs and one of them was a bad egg!
I put a old set in and it purred like a kitten.
I can believe it was that simple!:Eyecrazy:

I've never seen that before ever! What got f'ed up at the factory to make that new plug do that??
It was a NGK BR8HS

I spent way to much time trying to figure this out and even swapped complete electrical systems to test and it still constantly back fired.

Not to jack your thread but I had a ski that had total loss and when I did a 180 flat spin the motor would spin backwards and it would run in reverse.
Has anyone ever had that happen .Was quite freaky the first time.

When do we get the answer or do we have to wait till someone guessses,the suspense is killing me !!!!!!!!

I pulled my hair out forever checking every single thing that would cause the motor to continually backfire like that and it was a simple stupid spark plug!! AAARRRRGGG!! :banghead: :banghead:

I just had something like that this summer with my b1 .
It started out like it was hitting the rev limiter early and kept getting worse,after changing out a few cdi's and other stuff,I changed the plugs and was like wtf., it ran great

Never had that happen on a ski but I've had that happen to me before on 2 stroke dirtbikes when climbing hills. If I couldnt make it all the way to the top and had to jack around and rolled backwards and the engine started up in reverse and shot me tumbing down the f'ing hill!!!

That one bit me a long time ago on a 550 KAWI,since then thats the first thing I do is swap out the plugs,I have also had new plugs that did not fire correctly or at all.the next thing is to cut the plug wires back and install new boots if the plugs don't fix the problem,Always and I mean always follow the KISS rule,Keep It Simple Stupid!

It's amazing what a new set of plugs will cure. That's the first thing I try when something is just quite not right.

What made that plug do that? How did it get retarded at the NGK factory?

What I have found is every once in a while they just make a bad batch,I have only received one box of them thus far.
