Selling a higher dollar ski ?

What's the best way to make a transaction when selling a ski worth more then 10k. I know cash is always the best way to make a deal but what if possibly shipping / crossing the border to canada? I have sold a truck before that and dealt with a certified check but that kind of put the buyer at risk because I held the truck till the check cleared. Just wondering on how some of you guys have recently sold skis in the 10-20k range.

Even cashier checks can be fakes. I work at a car dealer and it is uncommon but it did happen to us. Make sure the check is clear even on a cashiers check.

That's what I did on my truck, I didnt let it go till I knew the check cleared .

Cash only, or meet at the bank the certified check was drawn from and get the cash. Make deposits into your account in less than $10k/day transactions

I prefer to go to the buyer's bank and have the bank check issued to me by the banker. Never have someone pay you a large cash sum at your residence, you may get an unwelcome visit soon after.

If a buyer claims the ski was part of a fraudulent transaction, a bank can freeze the funds for an investigation and even reverse the transfer.

meet up at the border and do the trade face to face
