So Darren, Moderators, how about a separate heading in the main forums section for threads specifically for surf riders? We could call it the Motosurf section (Thanks and credit to JFB). Currently we’re grouped with (Freestyle and freeride) but our ski set ups are as different as night and day. All who who’d like to see a separate surf riders section post your support here

You know I have the utmost respect and adoration for you John..., but I personally do not like the idea. I like the fact that we are all together, for I feel it causes us to look and share different ideas (even though you know I prefer surf). I like the common ground.

I always throught freeride was just that, freeriding whether it be in the surf or flat water.

The point is not to separate us as a group, I read all the threads on the X, and am always in the front of the crowd at a flatwater freestyle event. The point would be to separate which mods work for which types of riding. A surf built boats are so drasticly different than flatwater boats its night and day. Maybe its just me but I've been steered the wrong way in the past by advice that I'm sure is good for flatwater riders but is bad for surf riders.

I totally understand my friend, yet we simply differ in opinion on it still (that's all).

I must be retarded or something, I thought Freeride was surf riding. Have I had it wrong all these years?

Can someone define the following for me then (or correct me):

Freestyle: Tricks and junk on flat water
Rec riding: Cruising, squirreling around, jumping wakes, etc, also flat water
Surf riding: Umm, I guess the name says it all???
Freeride: ??? Maybe when you borrow your buddies ski and don't pay him for gas???

I google "freeride jetski" and I get a bunch of surf videos, I'm totally confused...which is pretty easy to do.

Thats probably a good idea. I have noticed over the years that riders develop very narrow focus toward whatever they like doing. Many come here for information and ski setups vary greatly with venue.

Freeriding anything is typically just going out and doing whatever, not specifically practicing flatwater tricks, not riding surf only, not constricted by any set plan, just doing whatever. (to me)

Ask 10 people and you'll get 10 answers though, all different. What's different from surf riding and freeriding then?

Here's one:

free riding - This is the term for casual snowboarding that is done on any terrain type. There are no gates, half pipes, rules, or contests. This is all about having a good time.

And just to make it clear, we're talking about adding a thread prefix, like the Yamaha/Kawasaki/etc and others that are available.

It's do-able.
