I have easily done over 1k attempts on FW backflips. I have gone from a wide setup wake hit the 2nd wave when I first started, to a U wake with a quick turnaround and hitting the first wake for the last 4 months. I agree that it's all practice. Everyone makes their wakes a little different. Some people do their turnaround into the wake quick and agressive, some do the turnaround into the wake slow and steady. I've got some excellent tips recently that have made it much easier for me. The biggest ones that helped me:
- Once you nose into the wake and start hitting the gas, pull back on the bars. Don't wait for anything, start pulling back as soon as you hit the gas to start the flip. (Flips are harder for my later in the day as my arms get tired)
- The most efficient wake is the quick U wake where you hit the first wave. When it is done well, when you turn around to put your nose in the wake, you will see the setup wake start to converge. It looks amazing when you see a perfect wave converge on the nose of your hull.
- If you can Get a nice rocking action before you hit your wake, you have a good chance of making it around. Especially if your turn around acceleration towards the setup wake is also your prehop.
flip at :25 is a wide, hit 2nd wave wake.
flip at :40 is a U wake with a quick turn around. My acceleration towards the setup wake is also my 'prehop' which makes for awesome rocking action.
flip at 1:05 is the same, just better. Setup wake looks more perfect when I hit it.
