Unless you're buying new, the best mag is the cheapest one you can get your hands on. If you're a surf guru, surf specialist extraordinaire then MAYBE the mag hooks up too well. Otherwise, who EVER complained that their boat hooked up TOO well? If you think they hook up too well holler at me. I'm always looking for more mags.:fing02:

yes your ski can hook up too well in the surf....going in a strait line you can use all the hook up you can get but when you want to come up to a wave and SLIDE up to the lip on a hollow wave you need your ski to be able to slide predictably while still on the gas...there is a reason almost no one runs them in their surf boats besides RL...Im sure you can get used to it but i dont think there is any need for it..ive had my ski out in HUGE surf and havent had a problem with too much cavitiaion...you can eliminate almost all of it by proper throttle control even in the whitewater

Throw one in see what you think..... If you absolutely hate it sell one to me:cheer: Crammit is a pump hog he doesn't need anymore for his collection:nono:

i use both 12 vein STD and SETBACK but in B1's and do not feel any differance between the two. ME i love the hook UP and have gone as far as adding them to some stock boats i have.

add me to the list of you want to sell, i would take both.

I talked to the guys at Skat Trak about this and they said that the set back allows more water to load the pump at high speeds so its more of a race application. The standard Mag pump works equally well as the set back at low speeds or off the line which is more of a surf application. I ride 100% surf and have a standard Mag pump in my SJ and I'll never go back. Nothing cuts through the white water like a Mag pump.
