Setting up a bigger wake

Any suggestions on how a bigger wake can be achieved. Im finding with my barrel rolls that im struggling to get any height of my set-up wake and half of the time pancaking because of this. Im about 14 stone in weight (no funny remarks please:haha:) riding a RN superjet with 760 ported motor, blowsion pump cone and skat trak.

I been experimenting with different styles of wake set-up but cant find the right one thats consistent.

is a trim system or extended nozzle likely to help?

Thanks

14 stone = 196 pounds.

Just to save someone the search. I had no idea what a stone was lol.

most new hull designs are shorter than a sxr or superjet. this makes the nose ride higher and the pump sink lower. i found when i shortend my hull i was able to pop of the wake alot better giving me more height. you can check out my build thread but i re-shortend my hull extreme this past winter. most people are happy with 3" cut off the bottom rear deck.

More braap will help.

yeah but i have been on stroker powered stock length hulls and could jump higher on my 735 powered short hull. and not by a little bit. way bigger hang time on just flatwater setup wakes. combine the short hull and big motor and its just perfect.

You also have to hit your setup wake at just the right time. If you do it right the setup wake gets to a point where it kindof breaks and if you hit it right then you'll fly a lot higher.

yes this is so true. good point. spending alot of time learning to make a good setup wake and then being able to hit it consistantly is also key to getting bigger air.

Bottom line is... the more water your ski displaces in the water while you're creating your setup wake, the bigger the wake will be. This is why trim and shortening the hull help because they both push the back end of the ski down. Both create handling problems that you have to learn how to deal with though.

The turn itself matters too. Obviously, making a 2 foot or 100 foot turn isn't going to give you anything you can hit. So you also need to have a turn that's tight enough so both of the waves hit each other with good strength but still allows you adequate time to set yourself up for the oncoming wave.

Keyword......Practice. Im no pro, but trim does help ALOT, ive got a stock length SJ....with a mild port job, pipe, head and 44's....and im getting pretty decent at rolls. But I also ride 3-4 times a week practicing setup wakes....im not giving up till I get them down.

But IMO the "U" turn has helped me the best, timing is everything.

Throttle management, trim system, and different types of set ups help as well. When I'm doing 360s, I'll make a short and close set up wake, but for rolls, I'll make my set up wake wide. If you have trim, pull it when you start your wave, and just keep going on and off the throttle at consistent timing, all while making a 90-degree turn. Just keep practicing it, and you'll get it down. I was practicing set up wakes before I was even doing aerial tricks, just because practice makes perfect, and by the time I had the set up for aerial tricks, I knew how to make a good set up wake.

Yeah sproks getting one ordered for me stocksy. Had a go with one at the weekend. Weird to get use to but definetly a bigger wake is created.

Will think about canibalising my hull at the end of the year now as its starting to get warmer.

You dont have to pull it all the way either...............you can put a finger between it and the bars for consistency. Too much makes it VERY hard to ride.

Timing is everything too................lots of practice!
