How is everyone boxing up there assembled or partly assembled motors for shipping?

Are there any good 3ed party shipping company's which handle 90lb boxes other than Fedex and UPS?

Double box it. Motor goes in smaller box, then place that box in a slightly larger box. Each box gets packing peanuts.

I loved it when DHL did domestic shipping, they were always cheapest. Since then, I've only done UPS.

I use Tupperware style totes with foam or towels in them. Fr twin cylinder motors, FedEx will be the cheapest.

I have a wooden crate someone shipped one in to me once. It is awesome. I plan to reuse it one day.

Beware of getting the wrong plastic tote. I used the wrong one once and it busted and damaged the motor. I think rubbermaid is the brand to use.

Jetworks did one by wrapping a motor in a garbage bag then spraying foam in a can all around it in a box. That worked great too.

I shipped a 750 motor via UPS. Used a rubbermade container, some foam on the bottom(i dont know but the spraycan foam from home depot did not expand well at all). I had some big sheets of stryofoam I broke up and i between those I used spray foam. Engine was wrapped in a big contractors garbage bag. I drilled holes and ziptied the top on with multiple zip ties. It made it to the buyer, tho I have not heard anything from them yet, I assume it went well. Only cost about 40 bucks for 68 pounds.

I use the tough Rubbermaid Totes from Walmart. Shipped a couple twins across the country and even found one large enough to send a Triple 1200 down to florida. I lay a piece of plywood in the bottom and then stuff it tight with everything and anything I have handy. I then drill a series of holes between the lid and tote and use zip ties to cinch it on tight for the journey.

I use to work for ups. The Rubbermaid totes will work well but since they aren't square and are and abnormal shape you will be charged extra. I've shipped a few motors and the best way I found was to wrap the motor in a trash bag and if any of the studs may poke through put tape over those. Then get a big enough box (approx 4-6 inches bigger than the motor on all sides) line the bottom and sides of the box with foam plank (it's about an inch or two thick) put a small layer of peanuts in the bottom and place the motor in. Then fill the rest of the box with peanuts. Shaking the box will help the peanuts settle better so you can pack more in there. Put one more piece of foam plank on top and tape it up.

If you don't want to do it that way, just make sure the box is the right size and type. Moving boxes are different then shipping boxes. Moving boxes have a 75 lbs crush limit while shipping have 200 lbs crush limit. Also you don't want any empty spaces in the box, so make sure it's filled with peanuts or something other than newspaper or rags, those don't work well at all. I've seen to many boxes come in shipped using newspaper and rags and the contents are just destroyed.

And as much as I hate the post office I found them to be the cheapest. I shipped a 550 motor with delivery confirmation(tracking number) and extra insurance for about $50 plus packing material.

A lot of people in the MX industry ship motors out in coolers. Nothing special, just what ever you can find at a walmart and fit the motor in. I just wraped my motor up with some bubble wrap and through some rags in the cooler for padding. Everything worked out good for me!
