What is the best way for a seller to protect themselves when shipping a ski? Is normal form of payment when shipping a ski PayPal? Totally new to the whole shipping thing. I know proof of shipping would be a BOL from shipping company. Just want to know the best way to go about it.

This has been they biggest headache for me selling skis . I bought one from a guy on here named Jordan . Can’t remember his user name . It went flawless no issues . I sold one to a dude he insisted on putting it under a greyhound . You read that right . Biggest head ache of my life from
Now on it’s in person only I don’t mess with the head ache

Lots of easy to use escrow services that protect both sides, but they do charge $$.
I'm interested in how this works? I have hit up google, but best I can see is the seller sends the ski. The buyer gets the ski, inspects it and aproves the transaction. Problem is, what's to say they change their mind, damage the ski, or claim its not as described to re negotiate a lower price? If the purchaser rejects the transaction the seller is left holding the empty bag. Who pays the return shipping? If the seller is lucky enough to have it returned in the original sent condition?

Selling the Ski "As Is" eliminates the Buyer returning the Ski. Write a Contract stipulating the conditions. Look at how (Terms & Conditions) online auction vehicles are bought on the Web for reference.
if using PayPal, that is absolutely false. “As is” means nothing to PayPal if your the seller. As long as the buyer pays PayPal fees, anything they say goes according to PayPal.

Paypal will protect you if the Ski is delivered and in the described/advertised condition shown in the Contract, Videos and Photos prior to shipping.
This is also not accurate. Even if the transaction is picture perfect on both ends and the buyer has paid the PayPal fees and decides that they think the ski or parts are worth less after they purchased it and it’s been properly delivered, PayPal will side with the buyer no matter what.

Other than these 2 paragraphs, i agree with you,

Im not trying to scare the OP but you have to be careful when selling, especially with large amounts through PayPal. Paypal ONLY sides with buyers that pay fees, period. My best advice would be an in person cash transaction. If that’s not possible, send more pictures and videos than the buyer asks for. Send over every piece of info you have or know of on the ski or parts. Also, have signed and notarized bill of before the ski leaves stating that the buyer and seller are both on the same page when it comes to the entire transaction. “As is”, skis condition, title, and any other agreements made between the two.

Just like any online transaction there is always some degree of trust involved.

If the buyer rejects it, the money stays in escrow until the seller receives the product back and has a chance to reject or approve. The process just reverses itself.

Details around who pays shipping back and all that can be baked into the original agreement. If you have concerns over this put it in writing so both parties can agree to it before money changes hands. The pro to this service over Paypal is the custom terms that can be set on a deal by deal basis to fit your needs. Its more expensive but worth it when you are talking 10,15,20k+ transactions with strangers.
