Like the title states. Can you ship the motor in a clear rubber maid container or does the package have to wrapped in paper on the inside or outside? This is something that was mentioned to me,just wondering. Thanks for any help.

U can ship clear tubs with usps.com I did a few times, but they broke apart. I use solid colored ones now, had a problem with them as well. I started to double up the tubs, 1 inside the other.

Then instead of tape, drill holes down through the lid on the outside and use zip ties. They hold alot better. I use around 10 all the way around it. Dont cut them off, they can cut people if u do. Hope that helps. LMK if u need more info on shipping motors.

Ya thanks for the help. I bought a 1 rubber maid and i am still a little uneasy as to how it will hold up? With the package being so heavy, if someone is moving the item that is not very strong they will either drop it or kind of throw it if you know what i mean. Seeing how cold it is the plastic may brake easy this time of year.

The clear plastic doesn't hold up. It all depends on the motor size, shortblock, etc..

If its a 701 u can use a 18gal from dollar general. I just shipped a 1100kawi in a 33 gal and a 550 in a 10gal.

There all about 3 bucks each, but well worth the money. U can even wrap the motor in a bag and use expandable foam. WORKS AWESOME

Yep the motor I bought from you was shipped exactly as described with other accessories inside it worked really good. Thank you, There was a little oil residue inside the tote though. you might want to consider using clear totes for that reason to avoid a possible haz matt-E situation and then you will be caught up in debate for a long time LMAO but fact.

Ya this is a clear rubber maid it was about $8, it is tougher than the colored ones that were only like $3. I guess maybe i should get another? You guys are making me nervous! LOL.

I saw a buddy of mine do something simple yet so smart. He put a plank of wood on the bottom a plastic tub, then he put the engine inside of a plastic bag, then he filled the sides with expanding foam. It keeps the engine locked in place. Make sure its bagged well. If your going to ship an engine why not give it the best chance to get there.

Just don't use Great Stuff.... I tried that at first and after squirt half the bottle, I realized that stuff takes too long to expand and doesn't have the vigor needed to hold up.

I shipped my 750 to Canada via UPS with cut up squares of polystyrene and newspaper in a cardboard box. The guy seemed pretty happy when he got it so I can only assume it faired well.

Last time I shipped one, I made a plywood base and strapped the motor to it, then double boxed it and filled it with filler (paper and grocery bags). Made it to the destination well, but cost a lot more than a 3 dollar tote. I received one in a plastic tote once and the tote was all busted up. Didn't work well.

Totes will hold some serious weight..

I have shipped complete Yamaha R6 streetbike motors in them that were barely below the 150 pound limit and every single one of them made it to their destination without a scratch.

Whenever the motors start to get that heavy I go to the dollar store and buy the cheapest pillows they have and stuff those and old blankets in for packaging..the paper just gets squished down to easy and allows the motor to slide around.

Haha, i may know something about this :poke::biggrin:. When I went to pick my motor up it was busted out of the tub and the usps lady come out dragging my motor on the concrete floor. Luckily nothing was busted. No hard feelings hardcore.

The plastic tubs will work fine, but whatever you use just make sure its packed as tight as possible. If the motor wiggles any at all it needs more packing, if it can move it can bust out. When i shipped quad motors in the past I would go to a local furnature store and get big pieces of styrofoam for free, I would pack the motor till it couldnt move an inch.
