This is a great thread man! I'm glad I'm not the one doing it though:woot:

That thing was running way rich I would think.

I beat the exhaust pipe with a rubber mallet to get it out of the ski and got it most of the way out but I wanted to clean the interior before I pulled it all the way out so as not to soak the foam. I was unaware that at this point, the foam was completely waterlogged.

The interior desperately needed and therefore received a good scrubbing.

Here are some photos of the bottom of the hull.

Lol, I was just going to mention that the foam is guaranteed to be wet, judging from the pics.

The Superjet that I bought from Opie looked the exact same way

I Marine-Texed the two superfluous pisser holes and started in on sanding the bejesus out of the hull for next few weeks.

The factory gel-coat was in really bad shape so I helped it on its way into the next world.

I removed the exhaust pipe and the foam was very very waterlogged and so was the exterior of the pipe for that matter..

Defoaming the ski on the exhaust side couldn't have been easier. I attached a wire wheel to an extension and went to work. To keep the foam out of my way, I attached the Shop-Vac extension tube to the exhaust opening in the engine bay and I never saw the foam debris on that side.

Defoaming the other side was a messy messy bitch.

I've had my XFT footholds sitting around for a while and I needed to get off my butt and install them.

I needed to defoam my port side and I needed to cut the tray for the footholds so I got to work with a Roto-Zip as suggested by others on PWCT who have cut the tray open.

It went pretty well except it took me literally three seconds to break my first bit.

I had my footholds cut, I had my foam out, things were progressing well.

I guess like all footholds, the XFTs needed to be tweaked to sit appropriately. They didn't match up precisely with the foothold templates emailed to be by Sergio so lots sanding and swearing later, I got them to match up reasonably.

Before I installed them, though, I wanted to re-install my exhaust pipe, rivet it into place and seal it on the inside. I got it onto place and coated the interior with USComposite's clear Marine-Tex like product. I then covered that with black silicone sealant. Lots of black silicone sealant. Lots. The first picture is of the pipe before installation and the second one was about half way through putting the silicone in the interior. I don't have end pics with the full amount applied as my hands were covered with the aforementioned goo.

Putting the footholds in was a pain.

I'm sure others would have been easier but I liked the look of XFTs.

I epoxied and screwed them into place, sealed any crevices that were present, allowed the epoxy to dry, removed the screws, riveted the hell out of the footholds, covered everything with two layers of fiberglass and allowed it to dry.

With a lot of hullwork performed and not knowing what color to paint my ski, I attended to the engine breakdown and rebuild.

To be continued . . .

Excellent progress. I think I would be equally pissed at the condition of the ski. Why the hell was everything so dirty and oily? I have never seen a ski like that before?

Looking Good. :arms:

I didn't know you optometrists would get your hands dirty (or that you owned DeWalt Tools). Of course the only other Eye Doc I know is Idok, so maybe you understand my confusion. :cool2:

Really Nice Work.
