How much did you cut off the top so the bracket fit without hitting the bend in the pole?

What size rivets should I use?

I think I had cut it flush with the housing at the top and then went an inch back from the housing on the bottom, overall I believe that added up to around 3.5"

The top you can cut off aro7nd 2 inches past the housing and be safe. And use 3/16 rivets
