Should I 760 my B1?

I have a perfectly fine running stock B1 that goes 44 but I have free access to a 760. I hear I will lose bottom but gain top, which is an issue as I surf ride. I was also told that a 61x exhaust mani will require helicoils and I don't want to go down that road. Next option is to use my 701 FP....will that bolt up or do I need helicoils for that as well?

Is there anything else to be concerned with? Should I do it?

I also know I need to swap couplers and remove the rubber piece on the bottom of the 760. At first I was happy with the increased HP I'd get but now I'm wondering if I'm messing up a perfectly reliable stocker.

Thanks!

Many have been disappointed with a stock 760 swap.

Now, a properly ported 760 is a whole different topic.
I have a Judge built 760 (62t bored) with Novi 49s and a FP and I could not be happier.....granted, this is a DIFFERENT motor. Since I ocean ride, I like reliability so the idea of better brap while stock is sexy but I can't lose bottom.

I have a similar setup with a TLR sleeved 760 cyl on a set of RIVA ported cases and it is one of my favorite surf engines. It's also been one of the most reliable engines I have owned. It was assembled in 2009 and to this day, it just takes a quick prime and fires right off.

I don't believe the stock 760 will hold a candle to it but what's stopping you from reverse engineering the Judge and doing some work to the 760 prior to install?

There are a handful of guys who really understand what the 760 needs for porting. Not all are still in business so you'll have to do some research.
@Jr. would be my first call if I was looking to build another.

My Judge 760 is stock, Novis were modified. I just want to drop in the motor without any disassembly. Not looking to replace the performance just looking for a reliable stock ski with more oomf than the 61x

Following...

In my neck of the woods I can buy a whole 760 waverunner for the same $ as a b pipe. Having not ridden either, what would money be better spent on? 760 is supposed to have 90hp stock. I'm guessing a stock 760, buy templates, home port job and jetting would be better >= 61x?

Just guessing here, but would boring the pump cone have a pretty significant bottom end gain on a 760 swapped blaster?

I'm in the same boat, perfectly good 61x. Can't help myself to want more.

Lets start with the basics, low port 61x cyls have better throttle response, which better for standups. High port 62t cyls make more power, which is better for couches. A Blaster is just a small couch. A good pipe is absolutely necessary, especially so as exhaust ports get higher. Any 62T cyl will make good "pump gas" power with a slightly widened exhaust port and a good pipe. The stock Blaster pump setup is too much load and will make any 62T cyl sluggish. Boring the nozzle and/or bending the prop is required to find best performance. A tachometer is very handy for pump and carb tunung.

I have done it stock 760 with stock 44's in b1 with ltd pipe with a solas I. I don't recall if I used an msd enhancer. I loved it. If you have access to free 760 go for it and drop the whole thing in and just do the pipe. that should only take a few hours for the switch.

if you don't like it take it out and then have it ported add reeds and ignition and it will wake up even more.

If you still don't like that then go to a PV motor but those are not cheap.

That sounds like a lot of work for marginal gains. The opportunity cost is too high for a surf rider. 760 swaps make sense for blown motors and racers, but to down a good running ski to make mild upgrades doesn't make a lot of sense. However, finding a B1 that needs work and dropping in the free 760 so you have 2 good running skis, that's an argument that works for me. Or fog and shelf that motor and ride that 701 like you have a good backup on hand.
