What is it about freestyle that motivates you? Is it that you are an attention whoring, "look at me", type of personality? Admittedly, that's a large part of the attraction for me.

What is it exactly led you to this discipline of watercraft as opposed to say, being a buoy head?

It's more of a challenge maybe, or quest to accomplish that one trick you strive so hard for, and then another, and so on, and not so repititious, unless your doing 17 backflips in a row. LOL!!

It's not the mainstream sport that every joe blow on the street with half a brain and zero ambition does. Finding a popular activity that requires skill these days is like a needle in the haystack. It makes me sick to know so many people in their 20's/30's that have given up on learning anything new. I either own extra equipment for friends or used to own extra equipment for friends in a variety of different things and no one wants to do anything because it's either too hard or too dangerous. Mountain biking, waterskiing, wakeboarding, stand up jetskiing, rock climbing, etc etc. If they can't learn everything they need to know in 30 seconds, forget it. I've asked tons of friends from work if they want to do the activities listed above and the answer I get almost every time is "I don't know about that but if you're going to go tubing, let me know".

So basically, if you can find someone who likes to do a lot of these activities, then you've found someone who is a lot like you and the potential for making a cool friend is much greater.

I have always loved jumping. Don't care what it was that I had, I always wanted to to put air under it. Weightlessness is an addiction. And yah... Attention unfortunately is part of it. I always have fun, but If there's more people riding and pushing each other, that just means there's more fun to be had.

I do think when you're in a group of friends, it's less about showing off and more about striving to be better than or equal to your fellow riders. Just trying to discourage the notion that this is primarily a show off sport.

When i started, I wanted to learn something that was more a passion but something that I knew i would have to push to get better at but not have the fear of doing it. Ive never done most of the stuff listed above but building cars bike stuntbikes and learning to do wheelies is very challanging exspecially in a stunt lot with a pizza sprocket. I figure why not push my limits and try something new to see what im made of. If i cant do it Im going to keep trying.

the only reason we men do anything is to impress chicks, so yeah its a show off thing. In my life experience, showing off in cars, bikes, quads etc I usually end up failing and looking like a idiot that can't ride or show off. At least on the water i don't scratch my pretty face. As for racing, well those guys are just too dang serious, and I understand why. I like to chase boeys once in a while but my ski sucks ass for going fast so i usually bail after 3-4 laps. Nothing is more fun than any kind of competition. racing or showing off better than your buddies.

This is only my second summer riding stand ups, but I chose to go in the free style direction so I wouldn't get caught up in racing. Growing up I've always focused on going fast. Riding moto was never about doing tricks or messing around; it was strictly about going the fastest I could around that track. It almost became like a second job at times... just riding to put laps in to stay on top of my game and not even really enjoying it. When I bought my SN last year and learned to ride it was the most fun I'd had on a machine in a long time. I want to continue enjoying this activity everytime I go out. That and the fact that there is huge ass boats on the river and what fun is a $10k race ski when those come cruising by?

You get a lot braver when there is people watching.
Thats SO true lol
I actually had this conversation last night with a buddy, best thing about our sport is 98% of the time you can try something completely retarded and walk away from if with nothing more then water stuck in your ear, Ive tried quadding, sledding and neither even come close to skiing... skiing is Zen like lol

It's partly the showing off thing for me but I think a lot of it is the fact that you can try anything and usually walk away with nothing wrong. It helps having others to ride with and makes it more fun. I know riding with ratti is what originally got me hooked on freestyle back when I had a bone stock squarenose.
