Silicone midshaft seal?

I read in Jetmaniacs midshaft thread that he silicones around the outer seal. What silicone should I be using for this; 1211, 5200, basic home depot stuff? I'm ready to install and want to do it right the first time. Thanks

Standard clear silicone from a hardware store is what I use. 1211 is too thin and is meant to resist oil/fuel and 5200 is permanent so neither of these is ideal for your application.

Std silicone is what we use as well. Used 5200 one time a long time ago and never again. You want easier removability and easier cleaning prep for reinstall.

Can we cut to the chase and refer to that sealer as RTV- it contains silicone.
