Since we're sharing our surfstyle pics...

I dont get how he gets the pop back into the face when hes leaning away from it.Im getting small reintres with surf stance but im having to way lean into them to get back into the face, thatz even with letting the nose get really tagged hard on the breaking lip right as the ski goes into the air?

no one said it was gonna be easy... I've been working at these for years and still don't have half the style he has

re-entries are all about the wave. Wave knowledge is everything. Where and when you hit the wave is way more important then body position. If you don't have a hollow wave or at the very least, a completely vertical wave, there is simply nothing to pop off of, and you end up landing behind the wave. Many days the surf just doesn't allow for re-entries. The bottom of the ski has to be flush with the vertical face of the wave. Hope this makes sense.

 well said..... the same goes for surfers trying to do airs. Florida rarely ever gets verticle/hollow. Probably explains why FL riders have trouble with these.:banghead:

I agree.... most days here are not good for re-entries. It does take the right wave... I think people get floaters and re-entry's mixed up too... WE are able to do floaters (landing in the faom) all the time, but actually finding a wave that isn't closing out is tough...

Lipping waves also make it very easy to do backflips without trim or much power because the ski is already past vertical and the pump is still hooked up. When the waves aren't there for re-entries I don't even try to do them because it won't look good. Instead I'll just slash it or bash off the lip.

I always consider it a re-entry if I aired either direction off the shoulder and landed at least half the hull in front of the lip and dropped back in with out applying power after the landing to get off the whitewater. I thought a floater was getting on top of the lip that has curled and then dropping back in fornt of the wave maybe with a little bit of power but not going out the back and then powering back infront. I can't say I have seen what I call a floater really done on a jet ski. It is a very light tip toe across the curled lip that I can't visualize with a 300 pound machine.

i would agree with that but would add coming in nose down or at least level.

nose high re-entries just dont look right. imo.

i've attempted hundreds and have only had a handful that felt right.

I'm glad you guys agree, nose high re-entries just look crappy. You need to imagine you are still riding the wave while in the air and it is one fluid motion from take off to landing. If you land in the perfect spot of the wave nose first just behind the clean water in front of the breaking wave it should feel like landing on a cloud.
Here's a video from the 05' Oceanside contest of a re-entry i did. I can always go bigger with frontside re-entries, but they aren't nearly as stylish as backside ones because with backside you are facing the shore and usually more tweeked out. JK only does them backside for that reason. I didn't land it but you get the idea...

They caught me by accident last saturday doing them on smaller waves, its a blast!! If you hit them right, it throws you back twards the beach on or slightly in front of the break.

I try to do re-entry's like a nose stab but instead of hitting the wave straight, Ill try to hit it at an angle right in the shoulder Its always worked pretty good. Mike is right too, I guess there is lots of ways to do it.

yeah... I started to do them like a stab to... At first it's scary, cause you think your gonna nose in, but you get over that... This style allows you to motor throgh the wave w/o slowing down... My goal is to enter back into the wave nose down and on the gas w/ no hesitation. Of course it's rare that you get one you really feel good about...

my avatar is a nose stab type of re entry

Very nice Vid Mike. I guess I've been doing it wrong; you're entering the wave due parralel with it & rotating 90 degrees to face shore, where I've been at about 45 degrees from it & rotating 135 degrees to face shore. Can you do it either way? What's the ~right~ way?:sneaky:

Also, from watching a few vids I'm trying to catch the lip just after it starts curling, where you're hitting it a smidge before. Again, what's the ~right~ way?

Are you usig footstraps?
