Single 46 sbn on 61x has large jets

I have a customer ski here and I am kinda stumped. He bought ski as it is and was having trouble getting ski started in the water. He brought it to me and I suggested going through the carb since history was unknown.

Turns out it has an AM SBN 46 and the intake was opened up to 46mm as well. The rest of the ski is stock other than oil pump delete, stock exhaust. Has 150/150 compression. I removed reeds and all are in good shape and sealing, no warping or cracks. Installed all new gaskets for intake and rebuilt carb. Had 120l and 150h with a 65g spring and 2.5 n/s.

Still didn't want to start and didn't run all that great.

I started changing jets and I currently have a 147.5l and 165 high with a 115g spring and 2.5 n/s.

Ski now runs awesome from off idle to full throttle and is very crisp and responsive at all conditions. Idle is better and more consistent, but still not perfect.

Low speed jets stop at 150 and I am having a hard time believing this setup works. All fuel lines and pulse line are new, and the return line restrictor is still intact in the carb.

Anyone have any insight?

Internal passages in carb can be partially clogged. I had a ski the other day that just would not run at an idle at all.

Every portion of the carb I could see was clean. Used compressed air to check low speeds and it seemed the air was going through to throat of carb but it just would not run. I tried cleaning 6 times. Eventually gave up and put another set of carbs on the ski and it ran fine.

Yeah what Bruce said. every now and then you get a crapper carb. Ive thrown at least one carb in the trash that looked just about brand new. I didn't trust the odd jetting.

Get a big container of carb cleaner, the kind with the basket you lower into the cleaner. Put the carb parts in and let sit at least overnight and see if you have the same issues.

the wet jet ran a 46mm carb stock on 61x case. I would try and find that jetting. I used an ultrasonic cleaner on my carbs and it was amazing the junk that appears out of them
