single pick up vs dual pickup

im thinking of getting one of those $50 plastic white kart tanks. but I see it only has 2 fuel pickups. so I would have to run one fuel line to both carbs and the other fuel pickup will be the return line. ive always ran two pickups and two pulse lines. does anyone have any problems running one fuel pickup for two carbs? I have 44mm blackjacks on a ported 701. or a 735 (whatever 83mm pistons is) I just don't want the carbs to starve for fuel. will I be ok with one pick up or should I get a jaz tank and run two pickups?

Just add a fuel return fitting on the tank and keep running duals with your dual BJ44's. Some may not have problems doing it, but I would always run dual line for dual carbs, especially BJ's.

I only have one pickup but use an external fuel pump. You can also make both fittings a pickup and add a tank fitting for your return. I've got two skis done each way in my garage and can't really tell a difference.

Thanks for the replies. I bought the $60 kart tank and extra fittings and pickup clunk for dual lines. I'm sure a single pickup would have worked, but I've been running dual pickups all this time. I just said F it.

Just look at the size of the fuel line compared to the size of your seat...

that alone doesnt gurarentee sufficient fuel flow Due to friction loss.

The concern would be application. freeride may not be an issue but i know racers and builders like dual pickup due to the demands of a race engine. My limited superjet runs fine with a single but the same builder insisted on dual for my sxr.

I'm not saying single pulse line! Just single fuel pickup.

I meant dual pickup. I said pulse on accident. I fixed my post.

My superjet is single pulse single pickup.

My sxr is dual pulse dual pickup.

My x2 will be dual pulse single pickup because i want a Reserve

if your drinking more than a single line can flow you may have no jets in there at all. one will handle the flow just fine

Unless you've studied the friction losses in our fuel lines and have some data I don't know about, that's negligible. Ever pressurize your gas tank, even just 1 psi, with the fuel lines off? You can drain a full size fuel tank in 5-10 minutes. Even just the natural pressure that builds up with an unvented tank will make that fuel shoot out of the line. The carbs are more than capable of drawing sufficient fuel from one 1/4" line, but each to their own

If you are worried about fuel flow/pressure, you can run aftermarket fuel line (IE: fuel line biz), just replace it every season and don't use it as a pulse line. One aftermarket fuel line has more than twice the cross sectional area of a OEM fuel line so there's the pressure drop you are looking for those worried about it.

Some good points made here. The largest ski Yamaha made, the SUV, with a 65U 1200 NPV engine with triple 44 SBN carbs, runs on the same green 1/4" single fuel line that comes in the SJ. Now that thing, with 4 adults on it at WOT will drink some fuel!

That huge thing only has a single pickup?
