Super Jet SJ Handpole Spring

Wondering if anyone has a write up on installing a blowsion handle pole spring in a Superjet. We got the bolt slid out and put the new spring in with the handlepole in the upright position but it just doesnt seem right. The spring wants to be almost slanted and there is no way to get the handlepole bolt back through the spring if its crooked. Anyone have any easy recommendations to install one of these?

The riva one is the one I have followed and they dont really show much because when you get the spring in behind the cables and put both ends into the slots where the old spring sat it will sit crooked unless the slot that is actually on the pole should be put in until after the bolt is back on the machine but that wouldnt make much sense to me either.

The spring sits "crooked" because it has all the extra spring you paid for..... :icon16:

They all require some "finagling".
Drive the bolt through the spring by tapping on the bolt with hammer/mallet,
Guide/pry the spring with BF screwdriver.
Get the bolt through the spring before you try to line up the pole with the bracket.

Another set of hands positioning/guiding the handlepole helps too.

So basically you put the long part of the spring down into the handlepole mount and the short end of the spring that goes into the pole you wait until the bolt is back through the spring and then put it into the slot on the pole? When speaking with Riva they said you just leave the short end rest on underneath the pole but is that correct?

that pole spring is a little different then the ones for a round nose. they both are straight on the spring. anyone have a similar picture for one on a round nose?

I have a FX1 with a RN pole and a lowered bracket.

Just make sure you have your washers in place when you drive the bolt in place. (Right Smoof, lol)

putting in the spring isn't all that easy, that's for sure. You do have to fight it. What I did was put the pole as upright as it would go, and then get the pole bolt as far as I could through the spring, to prevent stubbing the bolt on the spring coils as much as possible. This left the handlepole cocked to the side, and the pole bolt cocked upwards the same way. Then, I beefed on the handlepole to bring it square and the bolt level. As soon as I had the handlepole bolt hole lined up with the bracket hole on the other side, I stuffed a 3/8" ratchet extension in that hole so now the handlepole is held square to the bracket. That spring is going to be fighting pretty bad at this point. Then, I pounded the bolt through the rest of the spring, and let the bolt push the ratchet extention out as it went.

This is an aftermarket company's idea of a joke. Who needs a handle pole that rockets straight up? The spring is supposed to make it lighter not require effort to push the pole down! Not so good in surf if the ski gets away from you and tumbles with the pole extended. I usually use a heel bar to pry behind the spring while turning and pushing the bolt through. Most of all I put the spring in a vise and beat it with a hammer to wind it about 20 deg., makes installation easier and the pole not as bouncy.

so if i am understanding this correctly, put the long part of the spring into the pole bracket and the short part of the spring goes in the hole that is on your pole? or do you leave that one out to just rest on the pole and at what point does a person put the short part of the spring in?

What spring did you get? The one I got from blowsion never had that problem.. it has just made the handlepole weightless but the pole doesnt stick up at all.

I think the RN pole is easier because the bracket has the hole the spring can fit down into. You can put more leverage on it without feeling like the spring is going to pop out of place.

I had the same issues putting a blowsion spring on a SN and just gave up and converted the SN to use a RN pole. Doesn't work for the FX-1 though... sorry swapmeet.
