SJ hard to restart

Ok. Ski is an 08 with b-pipe, Ada head with 35cc domes 185psi, stock 38s with 70 pilot 135 mains pop off at 45psi (snipped gold springs) and aftermarket arrestors with Choke plate still installed.

Ski runs great and will start right up and runs awesome. The problem I’m having is if I wipe out or even just shut it down and float for a minute it won’t restart. If it sits for 10-15mins and after cranking a bit it’ll fire up again and run perfect. Maybe it’s flooding? Overheat sensor is just tied up to the Ebox. The motor seems to run perfect as far as the tune and temp is concerned. I did put in brand new mikuni needle and seats (1.5) when I had the carbs opened up. Any thoughts or ideas would be greatly appreciated.

Might want to look for an exhaust leak. Need spark, fuel, and air, and if your exhaust fills the compartment, could restrict starting. Could pull the hood and see if she starts after a wipeout.

Might want to also make sure your pisser(s) is shooting out a good stream of water. If not, the engine could be getting too hot, and needs to cool down before restarting.

Good call on the exhaust. I will check that out. Motor runs around 130-140 according to the temp strips. I’m running single cooling with a single pisser but both fittings on the head teed together. I’ve considered maybe separating them and dumping one overboard to a second pisser.

Still having this issue! No exhaust leak and all fuel lines and check valve is good. I determined I had no spark and that was the cause of it not restarting. Im thinking it’s the SS switch. Does this sound right? After attempting to start a bunch of times it fires right back up. Usually 10-15mins after shutting it down. I’m not convinced it’s cdi or stator or even coil because it runs great for the most part.

I had one once with similar issues and it was the cdi.
if you think its the ss switch, just unplug the black and white wire plug going to the box and try it again.
it wont shut off if you fall off so you may want to lower the idle so it just dies

Weird that it runs fine most of the time. And seems like an intermittent spark issue. Might try new spark plugs. Might check plug wire/ boot connections. Then try new plug boots/wires.. and coil. Just suggesting the easier things first, even though seem unlikely. Good luck

Yeah it seems strange. It’s only a problem after shutting it off. I got a new switch to throw on and I’ll report back after I give that a try

New switch installed and cutback the plug wires. Still having the problem!! Next thing I think I’ll do is replace the stock CDI. I’ve wanted to add an enhancer anyway so... hopefully that sorts it out. Very annoying problem!

Update.. opened ebox today and found it soaked and corroded! Gonna replace some components and clean it up real good. Installing an MSD enhancer while it’s open too. Should I add the extra ground now that guys talk about? What wire gets grounded back to the battery?

Ahh. The water logged ebox.. definitely a cause of weird performance. Would recommend trying to figure out how water got in. Were any screws loose? Might want to consider a new gasket, or at least make sure the gasket cleans up completely smooth.

Yeah I have a new gasket. The mating surface on the box itself has corrosion and it’s all blistered so that’s he source of the leak. Weird to me because this thing has only been in salt water maybe a dozen times and always cleaned afterwards.
