Super Jet Sj not wanting to rev past 1/2 throttle ~ any help

I have a '97 Sj that is giving me some problems. It will start and rev clean and nice on the trailer. When you put it in the water it will not rev past 1/2 throttle and is very choppy. If you go in circles and get the exhaust out of the water it will pick up speed then completely shut off.

I have replaced:
fuel lines
fuel
fuel filter
carbs
reeds
coil
ignition box
spark plugs

After replacing all of these the problem has not changed even a little bit. Still exactly the same. I am at a loss of what to try next.

What up bulldog ...damn that sucks on ur ski ..im still looking for a sj ...my buddy has the same prob with his fx1..so I will be checking back in if some one tells ya how to fix it

Any luck with your problem? My square nose is having a similar problem. No throttle response until i get the pump out of the water and get it turning. Then at 3/4 to full throttle it runs nice.

Are you guys running aftermarket exhausts? Check for an exhaust leak/ loose coupler. Might be a far shot but I have heard of someone else having a problem and thats what it was.

My problem was with the fuel or fuel pickup. I had drained the fuel in the past using the reserve pickup. I didn't realize there is still a bit of fuel left in the tank after the reserve stops sucking. So I used my shop vac and vacuumed all the fuel/water from the tank. I went thru the carbs again and replaced the pickup with a known good unit and it works great. I also used some of the star enzyme marine fuel stuff from walmart just to be safe.

or to do internal fill like that, i basically made what jss did in that link and rivited the plate to the tank with rubber gasket btwn. heated the neck of the stock pickup location with a heat gun, without gas in the tank, and slid the stock fill cap in its place. also there is a lip on the stock fill cap, i ground that off first so it fits easier and if i want to take it out i can.

I've had this happen several of times with my SJ's..........check your rear crank seal, aftermarket ones tend to do this and will pop out and run great on trailer but once you put them a load on them ie: pump in the wter they run like crap

I had something like this happen. Chased a million other problems. Never aftermarket seals again. It just wouldn't brap hard and propel the ski.

I have had this issue with more than ones with kawi and yami. I twice I've had bad fuel selectors (you main/reserve switch). Sounds exactly like mine with that issue also bad carb rebuild on another. Diagrams and what not not nut in quite right.
