Super Jet Sketchy 01 RN handiling

image.jpgimage.jpgMy 01 RN handles sketchy when riding in a straight line, intermitantly it tries to throw you off over the side. It seems like its catching the water somewhere about the center of boat then wants to toss you if you don't slow down. I looked at the intake grate and found its a jet dynamics deep top loader, at the pump shoe it hangs down lower by maybe a 1/4 inch and scoops water their too, I'am wondering if this is the cause. My works 201 on my other ski doesn't have that extra scoop at rear and hang down like that and it handles fine. The plan is to try another grate and water test. This RN has extended plat, destroyers, hooker 11/17 or 13/17 I forget which, blowsion steering plate, 701, b-pipe ect. Any help would be appreciated edit: this is happening at slow speeds 15 or 20, less than half throtle

I am always fearful when riding WOT on my -3" cutback topdeck conversion. Just apart of the fun. The extra 1/4" is odd though, might be worth trying to fix/adjust.

11/17 seems quite abit for a 701.

Are you sure it isn't chine walk you're experiencing? The hull kind of wobbles back and forth right before planing speeds. The tubbies may be causing this, maybe you can try removing them? They are destroyers after all. 08 Superjet is notorious for that on glass water.

Either you're not used to the set up or you have to play with your set up so you're comfortable. I have a carbon ROK that's pretty much a SXR bottom -10" and that likes to ride on either left/right side at planing speeds. Kind of difficult to get it center and a little scary at 55 mph. 750SX feels like that at high speed as well. I know this doesn't really apply to your superjet, but some hulls do some wierd things and it would be difficult for anyone to diagnose your problem or play with your set up from our seats. I can say that its normal for some intake grates to hang a bit lower that catch choppy water.

What would be the best way to remove? I used marine RTV, 1211 or 211 I forget the designation around the bolt holes and the perimeter of the tubbies.

Why? I had a -2 cutback SJ and it was great riding even in the high 50's.

Perhaps fearful was not the best choice of words, but I am very cautious. For me atleast, no trying to look around or getting distracted at top speeds. Those stupid, slow fall, fast impact, come to 100' away from your ski moments are something that make me ride carefully at higher speeds. Maybe it is just me.

In my experience, chine walk happens at medium speeds - once you go WOT, it goes away. Of course, I had Tubbie II's, so maybe the destroyers are different.

You know what it does have the mid
To wot death wobble. So you thinks its the destroyers at slower speeds as well, sounds like your right, how should I remove them? Have 1211 around bolt holes and perimeter

I also have a 2001 superjet that is set up very similar to yours. I used to run the jet dynamics top loader and I have the destroyer tubbies on my ski, when I first set this ski up it was driving my crazy when it came to stability around partial throttle, another thing I didn't like about the top loader was when I wasn't on the throttle it felt as if i had brakes that were coming on hard. I Tried the worx 201 intake grate and the stability improves greatly. Now I'm running the worx 205, it is so much better with respect to stability and it no longer feels likes my ski has brakes. I'm not sure if its the center spine of the jet dynamics top loader or how far it comes down from the bottom of the hull but I'm no longer a fan of those intakes. My vote is leave the tubbies on and change your intake grate.

I ordered a 201 Monday, if the 201 helps then I might be getting a 205 as well. Thanks for posting oside tanner. Ill let you guys know how it works out. Leaving tubbies on for now

I also run the wamiltons gen IV lowered hood, cold fusion lowered handle pole bracket and a riser bar setup. The combination for those three components helps lower the center gravity of the ski whichs improves stability. I realize those aren't the cheapest mods to do at once but I would really recommend starting with the lowered handle pole bracket
