Custom/Hybrid Ski-WHEE Restore

It's been quite awhile since i've been on this forum. Good to be back. So a friend gave me a 1976 ski-whee. It has a berkley jet pump and a kohler 440 two stroke engine. I've never seen one but my dad who is a surfjet guru (bought out a dealership when they were going under) vividly remembers them. I have a ton of spare parts too. My plan is to put a 38sbn carb on it and just bought a js 440 chamber off ebay.

You are 30 feet behind this and steers and throttles on a low pressure hydraulic system. The system is filled with a garden hose. It leaks however and i'm not sure how i'm going to solve this issue. The system maybe replaced with servos or I may look into something to replace the valve. Open to suggestions if anyone has some.

Planning on selling this upon completion. After I have some fun with it however. I want to keep the hull stock. Don't wanna drill any holes and ruin the originality. Planning on making a bracket for the primer kit for the sbn. Gonna put a bilge pump in with fusor epoxy. My issue is the exhaust. It doesn't have a jacketed manifold. I'm not sure it even runs cooling water through the exhaust. Haven't checked yet.

This is where i need some help. I'd like to set it up like a b pipe or wet pipe. I could run water through the pipe like on a 550. I talked to someone at factory pipe about this and it really didn't get me anywhere or i could weld some stainless tubing around the existing manifold to jacket it. I guess my question is what is the best method and maybe if someone could take a picture of there b pipe or wet pipe where water actually enters the exhaust i would greatly appreciate it. Not where it enters the jacketing but internally where water is dripped into the exhaust gas.

This should be a fun project and i can't wait to sell it and get a superjet it's been a few years.

It's been a year and I finally got back to this project. Planning to take it for a spin tomorrow (will post video). Still needs a thorough cleaning and waxing. I made my way to the secretary of state and titled it. Installed bilge pump and new battery. The pump exits where the stock bilge did. I have not modified the hull in any way to keep the nostalgia of the craft. The pisser wasn't visible so i made a fitting secure the exhaust bracket and the cooling system can visually be seen working. The exhaust is a rupp snowmobile manifold with a 440 chamber that I modified with some stainless plate hand formed. Decided to keep the exhaust air cooled. Switches have also been replaced to look original. The 38 sbn still need to be fitted. Going to get in running on the walbro first then swap. This will be for sale soon.2013-06-04_02-17-11_804.jpg2013-06-06_16-16-48_109.jpg2013-06-06_16-16-35_127.jpg2013-06-06_16-16-27_721.jpg2013-06-06_16-16-08_716.jpg2013-06-06_16-16-01_528.jpg2013-06-04_02-17-19_813.jpg2013-06-04_02-17-04_684.jpg2013-06-03_16-38-57_971.jpg2013-06-06_16-16-58_4.jpg

Hello!

My boss has one of these and would like to pick your brain in regards to the restoration. Assuming you're willing, what would be the best way to contact you to ask some questions?

Thanks!

If you are in Vicksburg, it would be cool to meet up and see this thing in person. Very cool. What lakes do you ride? We are from kalamazoo and ride a tiny lake in mattawan.
