It's been quite awhile since i've been on this forum. Good to be back. So a friend gave me a 1976 ski-whee. It has a berkley jet pump and a kohler 440 two stroke engine. I've never seen one but my dad who is a surfjet guru (bought out a dealership when they were going under) vividly remembers them. I have a ton of spare parts too. My plan is to put a 38sbn carb on it and just bought a js 440 chamber off ebay.
You are 30 feet behind this and steers and throttles on a low pressure hydraulic system. The system is filled with a garden hose. It leaks however and i'm not sure how i'm going to solve this issue. The system maybe replaced with servos or I may look into something to replace the valve. Open to suggestions if anyone has some.
Planning on selling this upon completion. After I have some fun with it however. I want to keep the hull stock. Don't wanna drill any holes and ruin the originality. Planning on making a bracket for the primer kit for the sbn. Gonna put a bilge pump in with fusor epoxy. My issue is the exhaust. It doesn't have a jacketed manifold. I'm not sure it even runs cooling water through the exhaust. Haven't checked yet.
This is where i need some help. I'd like to set it up like a b pipe or wet pipe. I could run water through the pipe like on a 550. I talked to someone at factory pipe about this and it really didn't get me anywhere or i could weld some stainless tubing around the existing manifold to jacket it. I guess my question is what is the best method and maybe if someone could take a picture of there b pipe or wet pipe where water actually enters the exhaust i would greatly appreciate it. Not where it enters the jacketing but internally where water is dripped into the exhaust gas.
This should be a fun project and i can't wait to sell it and get a superjet it's been a few years.
