Ski wont run when wet

So I just rebuilt my ski back up and got it running finally but now im having a problem when it gets wet. I can ride it all day long as long as I dont shut it off. As soon as I shut it off it struggles to start again. Sometimes it will start but most of the time it will not start. I keep trying and check spark and gas untill the battery gets low which doesnt take to long to drain the battery. I have spark but it seems alittle weak and it seems to be getting gas. when I let it sit for a while with the hood off and it dries out it starts again. This has happened three times now and im not sure where to go from here. Possibly a new battery? Or a bad ground? Any ideas let me know.
Thanks

What is not starting? Weak cranking? Cranks good but not fire? Freshwater or saltwater use?

Could be flooding from bad needles and seats. Run it on the trailer or hose with the airbox off and look down the throat.

Electrical problems are always hard to find. If you have any doubts about your battery cables, just replace them. Nothing else electrical should be a problem if your stator and ebox are properly sealed and don't get water in them. Also doubt its electrical of its happening in freshwater, although still possible.

Doubtful it is your battery. A bad battery doesn't start working after resting (although nothing is impossible). If its low voltage, it's going to stay that way.

It runs in fresh water. It cranks good but wont fire. It seems to be fine when running out of the water. Ill run it this weekend with the air box off to see whats going on in there. Probably wouldnt hurt to clean the carb too then. I also have a spare carb I can try

Alright so I just checked the ski and it seems to be struggling a bit with getting gas at first but still runs. I also noticed that the battery is getting the same voltage with the ski on or off, so the battery is not charging.

Did you check the voltage coming out of the Stator?

I experienced the same thing this past weekend. Ran fine for 90 minutes. Shut it down, never did fier back up... until we got it home. In the backyard it fired right up.

I did check the voltage and it was fine. Im pretty sure the charging circuit isnt working right any more because with a full battery it runs fine.

My fx-1 is doing the exact same thing.
Swapped carb and runs the same.
Starting to think the used pro tec cdi I was sold is junk.
Guess I will swap that out next.
Good luck.

It's my understanding there is one coil for the charging system going to the rectifier.

And another coil for the spark, going to the CDI.

A bad charging system wouldn't necessarily give you no spark, it would just cause your battery not to be charged. If I'm reading the diagrams correctly..?

If your stator is definitely pumping out 30+vac, must be the cdi and rectifier.. That's what it appears to be in my case.. I will be checking next weekend..

Any chance your kill switch is in bad shape? Shorting out maybe

Im almost positive that it is my voltage regulator. Im getting good voltage from my charging coil but no charging volts to my battery. 12.7 volts on the battery with the not running and the same voltage when the ski is running.

That sounds correct!

Regarding weak spark, I was told it COULD be a weak starter.. (Worn out brushes?) not turning the wheel over fast enough to create a strong spark at startup..
